    (Promoted by Nick...)

The Genesee County Republican Party (yes, Virginia, there is such a thing) welcomes the opportunity to tie Lt. Gov. John Cherry with Gov. Jennifer Granholm's record.  Not only does the Lt. Gov. have to convince nearly half a million newly unemployed to vote for him, but convince nearly a million Michigan Veterans why cutting their budget is a positive thing.

VETERAN SERVICES THREATENED BY EXECUTIVE ORDER
Security of Financial & Medical Benefits at Risk

(Flint, Mich.)- The Genesee County Republican Party opposes Governor Jennifer Granholm's Executive Order No. 2009-22 issued last week.  Included in this list of budget cuts is a reduction of $2,029,200 in funding for Veteran Service Organizations (VSOs).   Unlike other state programs, the VSOs have a huge return for money spent in obtaining payments and benefits for Michigan Veterans.  Granholm's action takes money away from veteran organizations whose sole responsibility is to secure financial and medical benefits for all veterans in the state, regardless of a member's years of service, age or income.

The Granholm-Cherry Administration has proven their incompetence at handling economic affairs since 2002.  Buried under heavy tax burdens and irresponsible spending, Jennifer Granholm and John Cherry have sought to balance the budget at the cost of Michigan veterans.  Michigan has 761,000 veterans, and as of the beginning of this year, more than 200 men and women with ties to Michigan have given their lives serving in Afghanistan and Iraq.

Genesee County's own Lieutenant Governor John Cherry is running for governor on his record working with Governor Granholm.  Besides having to convince nearly half a million newly unemployed workers why he deserves a turn in Lansing Cherry must now answer the 761,000 veterans why slashing the budget that VSOs rely on to operate will improve the overall state of affairs within Michigan.

John Cherry's campaign slogan is "A whole lot of people supporting John Cherry."  With his support of Executive Order No. 2009-22 it's a safe bet nearly a million veterans will not be among that number.

The Genesee County Republican Party calls on all members of the State Senate and State House to oppose these cuts proposed by the Granholm-Cherry Administration that will hurt the Michigan citizens who have risked their lives defending America.

Seriously, what kind of slogan is that?  It makes Obama's "Hope, Change" seem profound in comparison.

I had to dig up John Cherry's campaign site to see this for myself.  Sure enough, there it was.  Glancing through his site briefly, it seems that his campaign strategy is to hope that peer pressure will convince people to support him.  I guess there is something of a lemming mentality among the electorate at times, but I've never seen a campaign strategy centered upon the hope of exploiting it.

If that's the best that the Lt. Governor could come up with, I'm really looking forward to 2010.  Should be fun to watch.

On the subject at hand, I agree that Granholm's cuts are misplaced, and probably political in nature.  I won't be able to attend the march in Lansing, but I am with the movement in spirit.

Unless there are any new players in the mix... (5.00 / 1) (#3)

...I'm looking forward to see Pete Hoekstra stomp a mudhole in John Cherry.
