Rebutting charges that her veto of $52 million for higher-spending school districts was a political move, Gov. Jennifer Granholm said today the Republican-controlled Senate "left me no choice" but to slash the money.

"My veto reflected what I was supposed to do, which is to sign a balanced budget," Granholm said at a news conference this afternoon.

The governor added she may have to cut more money from schools once the state treasurer and House and Senate fiscal experts reach a consensus on the recession-caused shortfall in the school aid fund. Those cuts could come in the form of pro-rata reductions as soon as next month.

This is nothing more than a Democrat temper tantrum. Governor Granholm wants a tax increase, and she is not getting it. Therefore, our Governor lashes out trying to sting the states citizens by cutting funding to our schools in an effort to create a public outcry for more taxes to fund our schools.
