Remembering the Victims of the War on the Unborn

Last Saturday, May 3, 2008, was a day of remembrance for 23 precious Michigan children, who were mercilessly slaughtered and tossed into a common dumpster by their killer, "Dr." Alberto Hodari.  I, and hundreds of other witnesses, packed St. Gerald's Church in Farmington in order to attend a beautiful, solemn funeral Mass for these children of God, which was presided over by Archdiocese of Detroit Auxiliary Bishop John Quinn.

One would think that this type of funeral service would garner front-page headlines and engender massive outrage from the public due to the heinous way in which these children had been treated in life and in death.

But, of course, because these 23 children were killed before they were born (by an abortionist) - and not after they had left their mothers' wombs (by a serial child killer) - the mainstream media mostly ignored covering the event.  (For an exception to the rule, see the Oakland Press's coverage here:   http://www.theoaklandpress.com/stories/050408/loc_20080504325.shtml)

Nonetheless, there were hundreds of pro-life individuals who came together on a Saturday morning to recognize these children as fellow human beings - a recognition, sadly, that was sorely lacking on the part of their parents thanks to the lies of the Prince of Darkness via his control of the abortion industry.

The funeral at St. Gerald's was followed by a burial service and internment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield.  Both events were organized by Citizens for a Pro-Life Society (CPS), a Michigan-based Catholic pro-life activist group.  To view pictures from the funeral Mass and burial service, please see: http://www.prolifesociety.com/displaypages/pages/funeral.aspx

CPS and its executive director, Dr. Monica Migliorino Miller, PhD, were responsible for alerting the authorities to the fact that abortionist Alberto Hodari had been illegally dumping aborted babies and medical materials in the dumpster of his Lathrup Village abortion clinic.  In addition, Hodari had also been improperly disposing of his patients' medical records in that dumpster.  For further background information, please see:  http://www.rightmichigan.com/story/2008/3/13/05252/7249  & http://www.rightmichigan.com/story/2008/4/3/235529/7043

The funeral Mass for the 23 victims of the approximately 25,000 annual Michigan casualties of the "War on the Unborn" was symbolic in many respects.

    Read on. . .

We prayed for not only those almost two dozen babies found in the dumpster of Hodari's Lathrup Village abortion mill, but we also prayed for and remembered all those unborn innocents - past, present, and future - who have been (or will be) cut-up and "disposed of" in a manner not worthy of our so-called civilized society.

Following the short burial ceremony at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, each of us who were in attendance had the opportunity to shovel some dirt onto the single casket after it had been lowered into the grave as if to show our solidarity with our unborn brothers and sisters, whom we do not know but whom we love precisely because they are fellow children of the Almighty God, our Creator.

This was the first occasion that I have had to ever participate in a funeral Mass for, and subsequent burial of, unborn children, whereas Dr. Miller and many other long-time pro-life veterans have been doing it for years in many different regions of the country.

I think these types of events - like no other - hammer home the message that abortion is really all about death.

But the process of these spiritual rituals, in which we mark the earthly death of human beings, also reminds us that there is hope - a hope that one day death will be conquered forever and the Truth will triumph.

Thus, similar to the way in which we Christians anticipate the ultimate resurrection of the body and life everlasting, we, as pro-lifers, must continue to hope that the legalized slaughter of the unborn in our land - and around the world - will one day come to an end.

This is precisely why I never tire of fighting for the cause of the unborn.

Sometimes, though, we all can get caught-up in the moment, myself included, and start to lose hope.

But we must remember that political candidates come and go, as do U.S. Supreme Court Justices and the like, but what remains is a grassroots movement of everyday people - true believers - who will never stop pursuing the good until the overall mission is accomplished.

Just before the casket containing those 23 unborn children was placed into the grave, a white dove was released - the ultimate symbolic moment at which I thought to myself,

"Onward, Christian soldiers: the march has just begun."

***BREAKING NEWS: Citizens for a Pro-Life Society released the following press release on Wednesday, May 7, 2008:

"On the heels of the Hodari aborted baby find, pro-lifers, with members of Citizens for a Pro-life Society, in April 2008 found the remains of at least 6 aborted babies in the trash dumpster behind the Women's Advisory abortion clinic, 27549 Six Mile Road, Livonia, Michigan. The remains are those of aborted babies from 16 to 20 weeks gestational age. The clinic is owned and operated by Reginald Sharpe. Extensive bio-hazard waste and patient records were discovered there as well as in the trash container behind Sharpe's other abortion clinic located on Warren Avenue in Detroit."
