Abortionists, Granholm's DEQ, & What Really Happens to the Bodies of MI's Aborted ChildrenBy Andrew Shirvell, Section News
Recently, infamous Metro-Detroit abortionist Alberto Hodari has been back in the news - this time for illegally dumping aborted babies, medical materials, and patients' medical records in the dumpster of his Lathrup Village abortion "clinic" and possibly in the dumpsters of his other abortuaries as well. See: http://www.rightmichigan.com/story/2008/3/13/05252/7249
While the Oakland County Prosecutor's criminal investigation regarding Hodari continues, the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) has already acted. But pro-abortion Governor Granholm's DEQ has done nothing more than give Hodari a slap on the wrist. According to the Detroit Free Press, DEQ investigators found that Hodari "violated the Medical Waste Regulatory Act by disposing of medical waste, including blood-soaked gauze and surgical drapes, in regular trash bags and then throwing them into a dumpster." See http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080326/NEWS03/803260355/1005/NEWS The DEQ's reaction to the violation was basically to mandate that Hodari re-train all of his death workers - excuse me, clinic employees. Instead of regular trash bags, the workers must now utilize biohazard bags. Oh, yeah, the DEQ was also suppose to do a "follow-up" inspection of Hodari's Lathrup Village abortuary sometime this week to make sure Hodari was in compliance. And, outrageously enough, that's about it in terms of what DEQ has planned for this quack and his minions. But the Michigan pro-lifers who alerted the authorities to Hodari's legal violations in the first place have, predictably, come under the DEQ's gun. The executive director of the Michigan-based pro-life activist group that seized the initiative and investigated Hodari's Lathrup Village dumpster has been fined over $1,000! See: http://www.lifenews.com/state3058.html The DEQ is supposedly charging Citizens for a Pro-Life Society's Dr. Monica Migliorino Miller, PhD, for the cost of removing the evidence, found in Hodari's dumpster, from Dr. Miller's property. A $1,000 bill? Frankly, this "bill" is nothing more than an attempt by the DEQ to intimidate all Michigan pro-lifers from doing what Citizens for a Pro-Life Society did vis-à-vis Hodari's abortuary. Read on. . .
The truth of the matter is that the Granholm Administration does not want to strictly regulate Michigan's abortion industry for political reasons. As a result, what we have here in this State is de facto unequal treatment under the law.
It seems that, in Granholm's Michigan, the violators of Michigan's laws are treated with kid-gloves, while those who bring the violations to the attention of the State are the ones who are persecuted, if not outright prosecuted! Of course, the reason why this is acceptable to liberals is because Granholm ONLY seems to carry out the aforementioned policy when it comes to situations that involve the "sacred" right to abortion. The DEQ claims not to have found any remains of unborn children in Hodari's Lathrup Village dumpster when it inspected it. But Dr. Miller and her group certainly did, and have documented the evidence on YouTube. See: http://www.youtube.com/verify_age?next_url=/watch%3Fv%3DrfW2GU8a3BE (you now need a YouTube account to view this video). So, what does Michigan law say about the disposal of unborn children who are murdered via abortion? Does the DEQ require that they be placed alongside other "medical waste" in biohazard bags? Unfortunately, the law regarding the proper disposal of fetal remains is currently quite murky. Under current Michigan law, the bodies of aborted babies are considered "pathological waste" and are routinely disposed of by abortionists through the common sewer system. That is, these unborn children are essentially ground-up and flushed down the toilet. This practice is common with respect to first-term abortions, which constitute the vast majority of all abortions. But what happens regarding the dead bodies of unborn children aborted later in pregnancy? It is not clear to me. Regardless of the stage of pregnancy in which the abortion occurs, abortionists just can't throw their victims away in ordinary trash bags, like Hodari did. But they certainly aren't required to bury them either. Right to Life of Michigan is trying to change all that, however. Last April, 2007, state Senator Jason Allen (R-37th District) and state Representative Bill Huizenga (R-90th District) introduced a package of bills in their respective legislative chambers, which is "designed to enhance existing Michigan law to properly dispose of the bodies of miscarried and aborted babies." See: http://www.rtl.org/html/legislation/humane-disposition-of-miscarried-and-aborted-babies.html Right to Life of Michigan reports that the following are key aspects of this legislation: 1)When aborted children are identifiable "with anatomical parts supported by bone and cartilage," then they would no longer be considered "pathological waste," which means that abortionists could no longer dispose of them via the sewer system. 2)The State would require abortionists "to arrange for fetal remains to be buried, cremated or entombed." Given these requirements, this pro-life legislation has been stuck in committee - in both chambers - for almost a year now. And, if these bills ever do make it out of committee, you can bet the farm that radical pro-abortion legislators, like state Rep. Alma Wheeler Smith (D-54th District), will all but throw themselves in front of a train to prevent their abortionist friends from being required to bury their tiny victims. Nonetheless, this fight in the Legislature is worth having. When a pro-life gubernatorial administration eventually comes back to power here in Michigan, we need crystal clear laws in place, so that when Hodari and his ilk violate the law it is they - and not courageous pro-life witnesses - who face the wrath of the DEQ and other state regulatory agencies. Call your local legislator today about your concern over the status of Senate Bills 422 & 423 and House Bills 4647 & 4648. The successful enactment of this legislation, which will ensure a more dignified disposal of aborted babies' remains, will serve as one more step in educating society that abortion truly is the taking of an innocent human life.
