Global warming is undeniably a problem - for the automobile. Eco-militants LOVE to accuse cars and SUV's for wrecking our planet. Politicians LOVE the auto industry as a diffused target for regulations that advance their own green credentials. The media does LOVE to have you believe that skies would be bluer, the grass greener, and that polar bears would be back lounging on their ice floes the instant we discontinue constructing Escalades.

Not only is Michigan STILL in a one state recession but government mandates on the auto industry to cut CO2 emissions 30 percent by 2020 is just another shot in the foot.

I could see how many people believe Global Warming is a major issue facing us today. You know, with one of the coldest and snowiest winters recorded in Michigan history, with Jerusalem getting blanketed with a rare snowfall, and even Las Vegas early in the season receiving three inches of snow, you would have to be foolish not to believe Global Warming is on our doorstep.

As environmentalist wackos still claim doomsday, how do the top three presidential candidates plan on saving the planet from the looming inferno shaped by the planet's arch enemy, man? Our future president views climate change as an impending destiny and as each Senator is categorically in an elite class of `super-citizens' that can hurdle common logic in a solitary leap, they know it is up them to take a stand. They must loan their illustrious names to whatever loony legislation is composed to cripple U.S. manufacturing and displace even more American, and thus Michigan, workers.

    Obama:
    *    Supports a system to cap and trade greenhouse gases. Believes this system should have no free permits and should be 100% auction. Would "use proceeds from the cap-and-trade auction program to invest in job training and transition programs to help workers and industries adapt to clean technology development and production."
    *    Calls for an 80% reduction in 1990 levels of greenhouse gases by 2050.
    *    Supports "green jobs" and a "green economy" which would create jobs from an investment in wind, solar, and biofuels (including E85 cornahol, and cellulosic ethanol). Would "invest $150 Billion over 10 years in clean energy [and] double energy research and development funding." Wants to end the dependence on foreign oil. Would "establish a federal investment program to help manufacturing centers modernize and Americans learn the new skills they need to produce green products."
    *    Would create a "National Low Carbon Fuel Standard to speed the introduction of low-carbon non-petroleum fuels." Would "require that fuel economy standards are improved by four percent per year towards the goal of 40 miles per gallon within ten years and 60 miles per gallon within twenty years of implementation."
    *    States that "we have an obligation to use some of the money that we generate to shield low-income and fixed-income individuals from higher electricity prices." He has proposed to have inner city youth help the poor with home insulating and energy efficiency.
    *    Would "establish a 25 percent [quoted in some places as 20%] federal Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) to require that 25 percent of electricity consumed in the U.S. is derived from clean, sustainable energy sources, like solar, wind and geothermal by 2025."
    *    Would "establish a goal of making all new buildings carbon neutral, or produce zero emissions, by 2030."

    Clinton:
    *    Supports a system to cap and trade greenhouse gases with 100% auction.
    *    Calls for an 80% reduction in 1990 levels of greenhouse gases by 2050.
    *    Supports a "weatherization and low-income heating emergency program" and wants to "modernize and retrofit 20 million low-income homes to make them more energy efficient."
    *    Is against subsidies for nuclear energy but is not clearly against nuclear energy. Is both for and against subsidies for "clean coal" but is not against "clean coal. Supports "a phased-in requirement to have new coal plants capture and store carbon, starting with pilot projects to test the technology, as well as federal support to offset some of the costs."
    *    Supports international agreements with mandatory limits on greenhouse gases.
    *    Wants to end the dependence on foreign oil. Platform states she wants to "Cut foreign oil imports by two-thirds from projected levels by 2030." Sees green energy as a way to deal with recession. States that "we need to look at how doing what is right about energy is not only good for our security and good for the fight against global warming, but it will be essential in dealing with the economic challenges that we face." Wants "aggressive action to transition our economy toward renewable energy sources, with renewables generating 25% of electricity by 2025 and with 60 billion gallons of home-grown biofuels available for cars and trucks by 2030"
    *    Supports green tech and green jobs. Wants to "transform our carbon-based economy into an efficient green economy, creating at least 5 million jobs from clean energy over the next decade." Supports "a $50 billion Strategic Energy Fund, paid for in part by oil companies, to fund investments in alternative energy...[and a] doubling of federal investment in basic energy research"
    *    Supports fuel economy increases "to 55 miles per gallon by 2030, and $20 billion of "Green Vehicle Bonds" to help U.S. automakers retool their plants to meet the standards." Says that "if Congress is unable to act, then I will use administrative authority to achieve an increase in fleet-wide fuel efficiency of at least 10 miles per gallon over the next decade. I also support adoption of a low fuel carbon fuel standard to fuel the growth of the renewable energy market."

    McCain:
    *    Supports cap-and-trade legislation. Supports S. 2191: America's Climate Security Act of 2007, also known as the Lieberman-Warner bill. Has been a proponent of such a system for a long time; however, he is threatening to not support the bill unless it includes massive subsidies for nuclear power.
    *    Supports a 65% cut by 2050.
    *    Calls global warming "an issue we can no longer afford to ignore."
    *    Supports green tech, also supports nuclear energy and "clean coal". "I strongly support greater reliance on nuclear power." On clean coal, "it must be a national mission to develop a catalyst capable of breaking down carbon dioxide into useful chemical building blocks, and render it a new source of revenue and opportunity. Doing so will enable us to take advantage of our most abundant energy sources while meeting our clean air and climate stewardship obligations." Would let the market address coal plants through cap-and-trade and would not propose moratoriums.
    *    Supports international agreements with mandatory limits on greenhouse gases if countries like India and China are on board.
    *    Wants to end the dependence on foreign oil.
    *    Supports technological solutions to global warming: "I believe that the use of advanced materials and other technologies including alternatively fueled vehicles, flexibly fueled vehicles, and plug-in hybrid vehicles can help us meet our objectives successfully."
    *    Has "supported aggressive CAFE standards in the past and will continue to work to increase CAFE standards to a level that is practical and achievable for all new vehicles, foreign and domestic, because improved fuel economy will help our nation achieve national energy security, reduce carbon emissions, and improve local and regional air quality."
    *    Does not believe in setting a renewable portfolio standard but believes that the market will create this with the establishment of environmental regulation.
    *    Promotes energy conservation and efficiency.

It sounds like these politicians have wonderful plans to end the inevitable, right? Well, according to NASA, the Weather Channel, and many scientists and climatologists, man-made Global Warming seems to be nothing more than a hopped up hysteria and myth. Of course the media is silencing such factual evidence.

Such evidence includes that four chief global temperature tracking departments have released records showing that temperatures have dropped drastically over the last year. California meteorologist Anthony Watts says that, "the amount of cooling ranges from 65-hundreths of a degree Centigrade to 75-hundreds of a degree." That is a rate hefty enough to erase nearly all the Global Warming documented over the last 100 years. It is seemingly the single fastest temperature change ever recorded.

Furthermore, some scientists contend the "cooling is the result of reduced solar activity" - which they say is a "larger driver of climate change than any man-made greenhouse gases could produce." With evidence of other plants warming up and cooling off it is only logical to assume the sun does not give off constant heat.

So, does it make sense to spend billions of dollars, regulate the auto industry, and command private citizens to purchase florescent light bulbs all to cease the non-existent man-made Global Warming hype? I will let you decide, it obviously does not take the intelligence of a scientist to solve this puzzle.

Man-made global warming is one of the biggest scams ever perpetrated!  Nevertheless, it has to be true cause Al "Bore" and some UN climatologists said so!!
Al "Bore" sure is making a lot of $$$ out of it.

So what if the founder of The Weather Channel would like to sue Al "Bore" for fraud?
    http://www.climatechangefraud.com/content/view/1028/225/

So what if over 19,000 scientists have signed a petition against the fraud of global warming?

    http://www.oism.org/pproject/

So what if peer studies after peer study debunks it?

So what if politicians are now BACKING OFF their support of the ludicrous biofuel ethanol that has helped to drive up the cost of gas AND food creating global food crises?
    http://apackof2-theworldaccordingtome.blogspot.com/2008/05/congress-ethanol-affair-is-cooling.html

If Al "Bore" and some UN climatologists say there is global warming, that settles it.
No more debates. Done. Finished. Move along now.

Unfortunately, we are screwed here because as you point out, ALL the candidates to some degree are global warming kool aid drinkers

The question is, who is the least of the kool aid drinkers?

The "scientists" signing the petition believe that:

"there is substantial scientific evidence that increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide produce many beneficial effects upon the natural plant and animal environments of the Earth."

These so-called scientists want us to have more pollution, not less because it will be good for us and the planet. I can't wait to see the Republicons run on that platform - "We want more pollution, it's good for you!"

Better Dr. Science than Dr. Dunce (none / 0) (#7)
by Ed Burley on Fri May 09, 2008 at 09:00:47 PM EST
First of all, Novi, you have refuted me not at all. Here is the telling quote from your ridiculous article:

researchers concluded that elevated atmospheric CO2 actually reduces plant growth when combined with other likely consequences of climate change - namely, higher temperatures, increased precipitation or increased nitrogen deposits in the soil.

Notice that the increase in CO2 is "combined with...higher temperatures, increased precipitation, or increased nitrogen deposits in the soil..." Hardly proof of your delightful theory.

In fact, I, Dr. Science, am well aware that CO2 is created naturally, and is an important part of our atmosphere. People like you, who have an agenda, don't bother actually reading germane material to the discussion, you grab headlines (linked on your favorite socialist site), read the first sentence or two, and think that you have a case. You have nothing.

The dangerous gas that comes out of automobiles is Carbon MONOxide. It's what people use to commit suicide (when they start their car in the garage and fall asleep). It's dangerous in highly concentrated levels.

Carbon dioxide, on the other hand, is NECESSARY to life on planet earth. Take a look at this quote, Doonesbury:

Carbon dioxide is produced by all animals, plants, fungi and microorganisms during respiration and is used by plants during photosynthesis. This is to make sugars which may either be consumed again in respiration or used as the raw material for plant growth. It is, therefore, a major component of the carbon cycle. Carbon dioxide is generated as a byproduct of the combustion of fossil fuels or vegetable matter, among other chemical processes. Inorganic carbon dioxide is output by volcanoes and other geothermal processes such as hot springs.

Note the phrase "VEGETABLE MATTER." Sounds like a renewable energy source. Notice too that volcanoes and hot springs also create CO2, and usually at levels far higher than automobiles.

Well, refute away, if you can. I doubt it though. Gore can't, and you aren't as smart as he is.
