Cheating on your taxes isn't bad enough? Granholm and Cherry caught lying about it, too!

So which is it Chris? Even when Jennifer Granholm and John Cherry have legal documents put squarely in front of them they can't get deliver a straight story. Asked yesterday about the tax lien placed on Granholm and Cherry for failing to pay $20,000 in taxes dating all the way back to 2003 (while forcing the biggest tax hike in the history of the State on Michigan moms and dads) their campaign spokesman Chris DeWitt couldn't pass up the chance to tell another lie. There's not enough make up in the world to slap on this pig, boss. Especially when you can't keep your own story straight. Lying always makes things worse.

Lansing's WILX channel 10 reports:

The U.S. Department of Treasury has placed a federal tax lien on the committee to the tune of $19,535 in unpaid taxes that date back to 2003.

That would have been Granholm's 2002 inaugural committee. Some of the events happened in early 2003.

When we called someone who had been on the committee, Chris DeWitt, he said that was the first the campaign had ever even heard of the lien.

Emphasis mine. Because the AP reports...:

Granholm campaign spokesman Chris De Witt says the campaign found out about an IRS lien Wednesday. Campaign accountants hope to resolve the situation and are trying to determine if there's a debt, how big it is and how it came about.

Apparently the Gov and the LG discovered they'd been cheating the federal government out of taxes for the first time on Wednesday and on Thursday. Which is tough, because like your kids' public school guidance counselor tells them, you only get one first time. Unfortunately, it doesn't even look like DeWitt is practicing "safe spin." The original WILX report below indicates the IRS sent as many as four warning letters to Granholm and Cherry over the last few years. In other words, they had their first time a loooooong time ago. That's right. They've been around the block a few times. At least four. Five counting Wednesday. Six, I guess, if you believe DeWitt twice. Floosies.

And like anyone who makes a habit of those sorts of things, you wind up catching things you wish you hadn't. Like other liens for other tax violations. You can call them T.V.'s. Tax violations. And I'd forgotten all about that. My bad. Should have remembered. I apologize. (Let it never be said I can't admit a mistake.)

Yesterday when I posted the news that Granholm and Cherry were caught red handed cheating on their taxes it just plain slipped my mind that this wasn't the first time the Governor has been in trouble for this sort of thing. But Saul over at MRP and the Detroit Free Press remind us:

Late Thursday, the Michigan Republican Party issued a statement skewering Granholm for "tax evasion," and likening the IRS lien to an $800 lien placed against the Wayne County home of Granholm and her husband in 2006 for failing to file unemployment insurance reports on their nanny.

I guess the point is, we should have seen this one coming. Jennifer Granholm and John Cherry did. Yesterday. Or Wednesday. Or four other times in years past. Or all of the above. They're not sure but they'll lie and tell you whichever one makes you happiest.

Fruit falls near the tree - Wayne County politics (none / 0) (#1)

Jenny learned her politics - and ethics - bouncing on the knee of old "Fast Eddy" McNamara. Letters from the IRS? Toss 'em with the junk mail. Subpeona's? Never saw 'em. Campaign finance reports? That law doesn't apply to me.

BTW, did you see her squirming when informed of the law that requires her to remove Kwame upon being presented with evidence of official misconduct?

"MCL 168.327 - The governor shall remove all city officers when the governor is satisfied from sufficient evidence submitted to the governor that the officer has been guilty of official misconduct . . ."

It says "shall remove" baby, not "shall wriggle and squirm and go hide in the bathroom."

Darn it, now there you go again... (none / 0) (#2)

...expecting a former attorney and AG to actually follow the law.

One would think that since taking office, someone would've told her to a least look like she can handle it.

I guess this proves the landfills in Michigan aren't the only place we have Candadian trash.
Both Granholm and Cherry need to go and go now. We should be burning up the phone lines and clogging the states email boxes with demands that they resign.

MCL 168.327 -

Just watch - she'll find some way to claim that the evidence isn't sufficient. I'm not arguing that, in and of itself, the evidence that exists would be insufficient to convince, say, my dog, but it won't be enough to convince her. Ergo, no dismissal. That is what happens when the inmates run the asylum.

I firmly believe that there has never been a more corrupt, inept and feckless chief executive of the State of Michigan in it's history then Jennifer Granholm. She and that dolt she is married to are basically a light version of the Clintons. Lie, cheat, steal and lie some more. But nothing will change until the people finally realize she has to go. The sooner this is realized the sooner we can begin to rebuild and heal this state.

Where's NoviDem? (none / 0) (#6)

Come on NoviDem... Condemn these people already.

Crooks and criminals. Cheapskates and liars. They raised YOUR taxes, and decide they can skip out paying theirs.

But no. You'd rather talk about Republican crooks. You can't seem to bring yourself to talk about a Democrat.

So come on, NoviDem. I challenge your troll-ass to condemn these two crooks. Right here, right now.

Property Tax Hikes, UGH! (none / 0) (#8)

Property tax hike! where does it end? It is bad enough that we have, Total inflation on everything, heating bill going thru the roof, gas prices, 32% credit card interest.

These tax hikers on another tax rampage, are severely hurting the working class. The Republicans are the only REAL hope for working class people. People might say, this new tax, it is not much, but it is, and it is every year that they do this.

I have lived in my house for about 4 yrs. I got a fixed rate on the loan. But my payment has increased 25% because of TAXES over the last few years. It is time to cut spending, We need to reduce the amount of democrats in power, they are oppressing the people and erasing freedom and out of control with these taxes.

One had better not let that vehicle registration get paid late either-big fine!

I hope we keep talking about this and talking and talking and talking and talking and talking and talking...

We must realize that it has taken us a while to get into this mess and will take a while to get out. We can do it. From the ground up.

Just don't water down that vote-no matter what. Oh, and vote at every opportunity, starting with our local elections, no matter what.

Lets show them we are blown away!
