This morning I had an opportunity to speak with Dick DeVos about the question on the mind of everyone in and around the state Capitol... his plans for the governor's race and the 2010 campaign cycle.  Dick wanted to make an announcement and he specifically wanted Michigan's Right Roots to be the first to know.

This was a great exclusive for Right Michigan.  Not having Dick on the ballot for Governor will make things more difficult in a financial sense but hopefully we can find a candidate that can overcome that disadvantage.

I think DeVos made the right move.  I'm glad he gave us the opportunity to hear it first.

I think he's probably the biggest job creator in the state now, with Whirlpool and the Big 3 cutting back.

Now bring on Terri Lynn Land, and her accomplishments as Governor.  Show what the difference a Republican woman would make.

...For being our Candidate in 06, Dick. You would have made a great governor.
I think the MI GOP and the GOP as a whole, across the country, didn't get a fair shake in the press, both broadcast and print in 06 and in 08. That makes it difficult to connect, Dick. In short, we have to be able to be heard.
Some in the GOP are beating the party up for not communicating very well this past election cycle. I was listening, intently, but I had to find it first.

Dick, best of luck to you and yours. Hope to see you back sometime after 2010.

Drop the big government social issues, the left isn't going to vote for you and we've tried this with complete failure. Keep your nose clean and far above reproach. Don't pander to some leftist base who isn't going to cross the isle and be your friend, and won't vote for you no matter what. Don't go anywhere near the Saudi, mid east gift givers, and if you want to make a dent in the swing votes do it with good policy not concessions. Vet everybody (underline that) from day one. I believe the anonymous Palin slander is from those who were never for her anyway They're not even truly from her staff at all. The Republican Party should be quick enough to point this out.

So, be smart, fast, brave, wise, and God bless you.

...I'd appreciate it if he'd plant a big bug in L. Brooks Patterson's ear.  HE needs to run for governor!

What this state needs the worst is a strong economic leader, one who can work with corporations and not alienate them, one who can represent the state and the fact that not all of us live or want to cater to Detroit.

    Shell,

Wow, for a guy with a tagline of "Conservatrarian"... I dunno that Brooksie is all that conservative.

Despite the pedantic point, I think you're onto something.  But I don't know that he has name recognition like Cox or Land.  He'd wind up in a category with Bishop, DeRoche, and Bouchard - isolated by their regional influence.

On a separate note - I noticed Dick DeVos has been our party's Finance Chairman.  I really gotta ask "what the f*** happened with the money?" when we're outspent at least 2:1 in this state.
