Government health care: The compassion of the IRS, efficiency of USPO

On a prominent Michigan Liberal web site today  there's a long sob-sister post by someone who's relieved to be declared bankrupt so that she can stiff creditors with whom she ran up $100,000 in medical expenses because she failed to renew and pay for health insurance. It's not that she couldn't afford the insurance, or had to wait because of pre-existing conditions or anything like that. She just opted to go bare for a while, perhaps calculating that the system would ultimately allow her to free-ride - a correct bet, as it turns out.

Here's the most precious part, though: She whines about Medicaid bureaucrats refusing to retroactively assume her liabilities due to some technicality. Imagine that - government-run health care is as full of warmth and compassion as those mean old insurance companies.

Hey lady - Medicaid is your holy grail: Single payer government health care. Don't you detect a hint of irony here, perhaps a teensy little contradiction? It seems that pot of health care gold at the end of your socialist rainbow is actually a bucket of s**t.

Thanks for sharing your story, Joanie.  You are an amazing role model and despite the setbacks and challenges you've faced, you should be proud of what you've accomplished.  This situation is exactly why the bankruptcy system exists in the United States.  We need universal health care.  We need better (not more) regulation of the mortgage industry.  I think pre-purchase homebuyer education should be REQUIRED for first time homebuyers.  (Note:  I ran HUD's largest housing counseling intermediary - 1,000+ counselors - for more than two years so I know of what I speak.)

Do stupid people know they are stupid?

Yeah, how ironic that last line is in there..
