Long-time Saginaw County GOP activist, Lorraine Corl, laid to rest todayBy Nick, Section News
Regular visitors to migop.org and some of our readers and activists in Saginaw County got the sad news late last week that Lorraine Corl, a long-time volunteer and party leader went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, killed in a head-on collision in her hometown. Her friends and family will get a measure of closure this morning as she's laid to rest. She'll be euglogized and remembered as one of the sweetest souls ever to make Michigan her home. I remember the first time I met Lorraine. Back in early 2003 as a rookie at MRP I was assigned the Events Committee during the Michigan Republican State Committee meeting in Lansing. Lorraine was serving as the committee chairman at the time and knew exactly what she was doing, a huge relief for a kid a semester or two out of college and at his first fancy official function. She had a grace and a smile that put me at ease immediately. And in a committee setting that could get as heated as any other, from time to time, that grace and that smile never went away. As I grew into the job and the responsibilities and eventually moved on to other challenges at the State House and the last campaign she became and remained one of my favorite people to work with in the entire state. Sadly, we too often remember and appreciate people only after they've passed. If you have a chance, I'd invite you to take a minute to say a prayer for the Corl family and then give thanks for someone in yours. Just seems like the right thing to do today.
