on gross receipts? that was the main problem with the MBT...tons of companies, though having annual losses, still had to pay a ton of state taxes. hence, the simple corporate tax we just passed -- tax the federal net income and multiply by 6% for C Corporations. all others pay 4.35% on their owners' personal income tax return.

i believe you're right re: public pensions...but that was meant that we couldn't reduce their pension...say, change their multiplier once they retire, etc. it certainly had nothing to do with taxing something that is tax deferred!
