In the end I want to see someone with passion taking this on. You are right, when you suggest this will not be given up easily by the Dems. It's the Republican's race to lose, and soft spoken may not be good enough.. OTOH, maniacal posturing is counter productive as well, though I haven't really seen anyone go there yet.

Popular I am not. I have friends in all camps. going forward, I am hoping to see respectful debate and real issues sorted out.

As usual, appreciate the input.

We (the Sheltrown campaign) passed Benishek yesterday outside of Naubinway. Benishek has a sweet looking luxury motorcoach, no doubt bought and fueled with some of that $200,000 in out-of-state internet funding. We were heading to Marquette, Ispheming and Negaunee. I suspect Benishek was en route to the Cheboygan Co. Lincoln Day dinner. Even though he hasn't been in office before, he seems to know what he is doing. Linda Goldthorp, on the other hand, has several hundred yard signs out. Almost all on public land and right of ways. In April. She seems to be following the Ron Paul campaign model.

Republicans in the First Congressional District have a very interesting choice to make between Allen and Benishek, a choice that will test the validity of the Tea Party movement and quite likely define the future direction of the Republican Party in Michigan. But even if Benishek loses, as Lansing's political "pundits" say he will, he'll still have that motorhome. As Mr. Gillman said, this is the Republican's race to lose. And that appears to be what's happening.
