      Like it or not, Dan Scripps deserved that seat. He worked his butt off in two consecutive elections and certainly out-worked the Republicans. It didn't help the GOP family was feuding last year and couldn't agree on a candidate; forcing a nasty primary. That district has been trending Democrat for years. It's not the union, blue-collar Democrats either, but rather the upper middle-class and wealthy folks from downstate and Chicago that don't think country bumpkin Republicans are the answer. It's a cultural disconnect. As I said in my previous post, I have a summer house in a Northern Michigan community that is represented by a Democrat. I can understand why some wealthier, college-educated folks would vote for a wealthier, college-educated Democrat over "Bubba" the local Republican. The same with Sarah Palin; I don't connect with her. I have three college degrees from top-tier universities, have raised a family of three (two of the kids are in college now), and care about more than just guns, abortion and marriage.
