    Welcome to Scoop!

To help you figure things out, there is a Scoop Admin Guide which can hopefully answer most of your questions.

    Some tips:

    • Most of the layout is changed in "Blocks", found in the admin tools menu
    • Features can be turned on and off, and configured, in "Site Controls" in the admin tools menu
    • Stories have an "edit" link right beside the "Full Story" link on an index page, and right beside the "Post a Comment" link on the full story page. They can also be edited by clicking the story title in the "Story List" admin tool
    • Boxes are what allow you to write new features for Scoop; they require a knowledge of the perl programming language to work with effectively, although you can often make small changes without knowing much perl. If you would like a feature added but cannot program it yourself, ScoopHost does custom Scoop programming as one of its services.
    • If you aren't sure where to look for a particular feature or piece of display, try the "Search Admin Tools" link in the admin tools menu.

    Occupy Traverse City Part II

Yesterday's post showed a more reasonable side of the OWS debate.  At least from one occupier's perspective.

A little truer to the suspected ideological participation, this Kucinich supporter (a last thing he mentioned after the camera was off) might better fit the framing of what OWS is. However, each of the folks I spoke to were not unreasonable, and this particular man was a little more concerned about being careful who he talks to, probably to avoid being misrepresented.  I can respect that.

This event by the way, was promoted through an email blast by the local Democrat party.

I should note, there are no edits on these, except that the third video I was 'made' by some local activists who don't care for me much.  I may have to split that interview into two sections.  It should be ready by tomorrow.

It was a beautiful day, so I decided to take a stroll downtown with the camcorder. OWS protest event was going on, and I decided I would see if anyone felt like talking on camera.

The next video in this series (this is one of three) has a little different perspective.

A Message To Our Legislators - Beware False Choices

Americas Irish Spring soap requiring slackers hit Detroit.

The Occupy Detroit group -- inspired by the protests on Wall Street seeking social, political and economic change -- plans to meet at 4 p.m. today at the Spirit of Detroit statute on Woodward. The group will march to Grand Circus Park at 6 p.m. and then occupy the area with sit-ins, pickets and other forms of protest.

Among those who plan to participate is Darlene Westfall, a Detroit Public Schools special education teacher.

"I've been teaching for 30 years and I have been considering getting another job because I can't make ends meet," said Westfall, a Westland resident. "I am getting the same salary I got in the mid-'90s. Something is not right."

Go figure, Darlene.  BTW, nice Detroit zip code.

RIGHT ON Nolan - Occupy DETROIT

Nolan Finley, the best snark of the weekend pulls the whole "occupy" routine all together with his Sunday editorial.

I have seen SOME tea party types exclaim that these kids should be courted into the "tea" movement so "they won't be lost to the left."  I argued I could offer no support other than to "agree the fed should be ended." And THAT argument however, needs even more discussion.  My main point against saddling up with the occupy crowd, is frankly that they are little but a tool of this administration's allies.  They are too closely aligned with Marxist and redistributive desires to be even slightly cozy. These kids are already tools of the left, and would be no more inclined to listen to conservative principles than Jennifer Granholm or Saul Alinsky.

Take your pick whom might be more radical.

In the editorial, Nolan calls them out as the radicals more aligned with the "sympathetic" administration of Barack Obama who as a matter of course ignored the millions of Tea Party types arguing for a return to limited government.  He notes as "odd" the disparity in acknowledgment between those two groups.  And as 'peace loving' lib-tards go, the occupy crowd doe not disappoint. Nolan closes with:

"State lawmakers in New York have received emails reportedly connected to Occupy Wall Street containing this cheery call to action: "It's time to kill the wealthy."

I haven't taken a poll, but my hunch is more Americans relate to "cut the spending" than to "kill the wealthy."

That's why I'm eager to see this freak show arrive in Detroit."

It'll be informative for voters to compare the American protesters Barack Obama sympathizes with to those he despises.

    Eager, yes. As am I.

    Tea Parties vs. Obamunism

The guy hasn't been in office three months and he's already inspired an entry in the Urban Dictionary - with any luck it'll become a permanent entry in the American English lexicon (as a warning to future generations).  Neither Merriam-Webster nor Oxford has picked it up yet.

Obamunism:  (noun - portmanteau of "Obama" and "Communism")

    1. A theory or system of social organization that advocates the vesting of the ownership and control of the means of production and distribution, of capital, land, etc., in the community as a whole.  (Obamunism advocates transfer of wealth from the productive to the reproductive.)

    2. A political philosophy characterized by income and wealth redistribution, massive deficit spending, debasement of the currency, and world empire; noted for its leader's supreme arrogance and ineptitude.  (Due to recent government bailouts, the country is moving quickly towards Obamunism.)

    3. The high-tax, big government, economic growth-killing, centrally planned economic regime favored by Barack Hussein Obama; essentially the same as Communism and Socialism.  (Obamunism is exactly like socialism except it is newer, shinier, and less icky sounding.)

This philosophy, of course, features obanomics and obamysticism, which is always favorably reported by an obamobsessed media to willing obamunists, obamoids, and obamorons everywhere.

    Follow-Up Protests

    (FYI... and promoted by Nick...)

Don't think for a second that the Tea Party Protest back on 27 February was the only one.  Nope, that was just the opening act.  The New Patriot Revolution is tracking several in-state follow-up protests; all leading up to the next National Tea Party Protest scheduled, fittingly, for our great national anti-holiday, April 15th.
