    Welcome to Scoop!

To help you figure things out, there is a Scoop Admin Guide which can hopefully answer most of your questions.

    Some tips:

    • Most of the layout is changed in "Blocks", found in the admin tools menu
    • Features can be turned on and off, and configured, in "Site Controls" in the admin tools menu
    • Stories have an "edit" link right beside the "Full Story" link on an index page, and right beside the "Post a Comment" link on the full story page. They can also be edited by clicking the story title in the "Story List" admin tool
    • Boxes are what allow you to write new features for Scoop; they require a knowledge of the perl programming language to work with effectively, although you can often make small changes without knowing much perl. If you would like a feature added but cannot program it yourself, ScoopHost does custom Scoop programming as one of its services.
    • If you aren't sure where to look for a particular feature or piece of display, try the "Search Admin Tools" link in the admin tools menu.

    The New Free Market Minute

Part of the problem with the electorate, is a decidedly poor attention span.

Most folks can't hold on to a thought for more than a minute or so before the phone rings, or a hot flash news item distracts them.  In fact lives have become so busy, its amazing that understanding of cause and effect is as broad as the 5% that it seems to be. In fact I fear analytical abilities are on the wane. Without that important skill, it is becoming increasingly difficult to keep people focused on what has truly become the enemy of our liberty.

When government controls our purse, we are not truly free.

    Period.

Below the fold, is a new project I hope will help to reverse the trend towards political and economic ignorance.  It will be offered free for a time to radio stations that wish to have a morning minute type programming, or even something for fill in between programming.  It will be edgy, and hopefully coherent.

The idea came while making commercials for the state representative race I was recently involved with.  As one of the most effective parts of the campaign, it was clear how effective radio could be if used properly.  At the same time, it provides a new programming option for stations that want to enhance their talk radio line up.

    Too Good For Us.

Driving the point home about exposure, and the options we have, the United States Senate race in Michigan is becoming a prime example of all that is wrong in the Republican machinery's selection process.  The elite attitudes that exist not only in the establishment Republican circles, are all too often exhibited by those who will be asking for our financial and logistical support in the coming year if successful in the primaries.

And while I recognize the value of Reagan's 11th commandment, there is a lesson that needs to be given.

Yesterday, our local party chair talked about how we need to pull together to support and elect Republicans.  Especially given the election's importance, and how badly we need to get rid of Obama.  Most agree with that assessment.  We need to rid ourselves of Obama, and all the legislative creatures who allow him to continue his destruction of our country.

And to do so, it takes cooperation from our elected officials who fly under the Republican banner, and especially those who would presume to occupy particular seats in congress or the Senate, or even the presidency.  Cooperation that certainly showed during the Herman Cain event a month ago.  Mr Cain showed up, drew over 1200 folks from our tiny area of the world, and allowed the local party to get info from interested Republicans that will be oh-so-important in the year to come. Information that allows us to reach out and inform of special events, fund raisers, and get-out-the-vote efforts that can make the difference in any of several races when needed.

We helped Cain, and Cain helped expand the party influence.  We would do the same thing for a Romney, Gingrich, Bachmann, etc. visit, even if Cain were the top guy and still in the race.   Its good to look at all of the messages, and let local Republicans choose who best represents their views.  Frankly its the BEST way to advance the Republican vision.

But apparently some of our politicians are too big for the party. At least our tiny part of it.

    "Centrist" Republicans Target Selves

In a time when conservatism has regained the eye and can be found more in the heart of America, those who refuse to stand for anything, seem to expend more effort standing AGAINST those who would presumably be their allies.

Some Republicans have consistently, even in the face of gains made by "tea party" conservatives in their party, shunned those gains, and pegged the new conservatism as "extreme."  Rather than embrace the ideas of responsibility and restraint with regard to government, they have instead attempted to scuttle reform efforts by those who were in fact elected under a conservative flag.  Such things as spending within means, and abiding by the constitution, to centrists, is tantamount to guaranteeing they would be unelected in following cycles.

So instead of promoting any message that is constitutionally legitimate, or perhaps even (dare we suggest) "righteous," it is far easier to put finger to the wind, and see where society would accept deviation from current conditions and then assume relatively safe positions.  Far easier to be "politically correct," slight those who share your party banner, and continue a path toward complete socialism for the sake of personal power.

And they call it "moderation," being reasonable, more "centrist."

And those who have no ability to stand up for anything they pretend to believe, proudly state that they are indeed milquetoast.

Including some notable Michiganders and others below the fold.

MI GOP - Higher Taxes BAD

According to the Michigan GOP, the Democrats call for higher taxes will harm the nation's economy.

    We agree.

"Failed Obama Leadership Causes Historic Downgrade; Signals a Need to Curb Spending by Washington"

    From Their release today:

LANSING -- In the aftermath of last week's historic downgrade of America's credit rating, Michigan Republican Party Chairman Bobby Schostak said today that any talk in Washington of raising taxes on Americans now is absurd.

"Last week's credit downgrade proves what Republicans have been saying since Democrats went on a spending spree with taxpayers' money in 2009: Washington has a spending problem, not a revenue problem," Schostak said, commenting on Standard & Poor's downgrade of American credit.

    Union Questionaire Draws Attention

    By JGillman, Section News

A posting I had here a few days ago poked fun at the SEIU Corrections unit (MCO) questionnaire that attempted to identify the core political allegiance of its membership.  It drew the attention of the Mackinac Center's Paul Kearsey, who asks a more important question than I had in my post.

    What about Policy?

    Kearsey opines:

"The interesting and at the same time sobering thing about this is how SEIU leaders see their members through a strictly partisan political lens. The space that the union used to gauge the strength of its members' partisan leanings are (Are you sorta Republican, really Republican, or really, really Republican?) could just as easily been used to find out how worried their members are about losing their pensions in a state bankruptcy, or whether or not work rules negotiated by the union made prisons safer or a host of other questions having to do with what MCO members really want their union to do."

Leave it to the smart guys to make my point.
