  • Your New Scoop Site

    Welcome to Scoop!

To help you figure things out, there is a Scoop Admin Guide which can hopefully answer most of your questions.

    Some tips:

    • Most of the layout is changed in "Blocks", found in the admin tools menu
    • Features can be turned on and off, and configured, in "Site Controls" in the admin tools menu
    • Stories have an "edit" link right beside the "Full Story" link on an index page, and right beside the "Post a Comment" link on the full story page. They can also be edited by clicking the story title in the "Story List" admin tool
    • Boxes are what allow you to write new features for Scoop; they require a knowledge of the perl programming language to work with effectively, although you can often make small changes without knowing much perl. If you would like a feature added but cannot program it yourself, ScoopHost does custom Scoop programming as one of its services.
    • If you aren't sure where to look for a particular feature or piece of display, try the "Search Admin Tools" link in the admin tools menu.

They don't like to be called "thugs."

How about we call some of them "convicts"?

    Anyhow.. Some random phone videos..

Although I almost always mean our servicemen overseas, there is no doubt we have others to whom we will be indebted very soon.

The folks who are in the midst of the Freedom to work battle, and occupying the AFP tents.  To the high power individuals who stepped up and put this over the top. To the folks who are in the midst of deliberations, and will have to endure the phone assaults, curses, and procedural tortures ad nauseum. And to our state police who will be expected to keep the peace with little or no help from Virg Bernero's personal security detail (the Lansing Police). To the folks at home giving strength to our besieged legislators. And last but not least, to the the workers who have endured the dignity robbing pain of supporting illicit and unacceptable political agendas of union leadership, simply for wishing to put food on their families' table.

God bless you all tomorrow, and going forward.

    Happy meals?

Apparently some of the protesters had no idea why they were there.

    Labor's Road trip

Many of you have seen the way in which many of the labor unions which do business in Michigan are teaming up and holding their own rallies in small to medium sized towns, but you may might not be sure exactly what is being said unless you go to one.

Our small group of perhaps 50 folks demonstrated for Right To Work outside the entrance of a rally in Petoskey on Sunday.  While we held our ground outdoors, the teachers and other members of labor units attended one of these unification rallies inside.

And even with a strong constitution, the thought of attending the emotion ginning affairs might be tough. Try holding your lunch while listening to old mobsters try to explain to the younger new union members that they have to be more aggressive, and stick together (to do something illegal).  Listen to the custodian mom who has been getting dragged to each of these affairs because she is worried about her job, with the new legislation mandating bid process for off-education activities.

The tour of Michigan towns and villages according to our infiltrator at the Petoskey pro-union rally are getting mixed signals, and our message while standing outside the entrance to the event was perhaps internalized a little.  People want the right to work in Michigan.

Funny how that looks..  "people want the right to work"

When did we have to start asking permission?

For the custodian mom, she is sure her job will be contracted out.  She may well really think so, but the attendees are being done a disservice by the labor handlers of hers not also mentioning that her union could bid as well, taking a more entrepreneurial role. Hmmm, "entrepreneurial role" ... where have I seen THAT before?

    But I digress..

More as I have time through the day.

Detroit Teachers Union Swearing In Ceremony

The DFT has suspended this union activist for 7 months for interfering with the ceremony.  It is interesting that they behave the same way at their own meetings as they do when slandering, belittling and intimidating the very citizens who provide the taxes to pay them. Thugs - all of them.
