  • Your New Scoop Site

    Welcome to Scoop!

To help you figure things out, there is a Scoop Admin Guide which can hopefully answer most of your questions.

    Some tips:

    • Most of the layout is changed in "Blocks", found in the admin tools menu
    • Features can be turned on and off, and configured, in "Site Controls" in the admin tools menu
    • Stories have an "edit" link right beside the "Full Story" link on an index page, and right beside the "Post a Comment" link on the full story page. They can also be edited by clicking the story title in the "Story List" admin tool
    • Boxes are what allow you to write new features for Scoop; they require a knowledge of the perl programming language to work with effectively, although you can often make small changes without knowing much perl. If you would like a feature added but cannot program it yourself, ScoopHost does custom Scoop programming as one of its services.
    • If you aren't sure where to look for a particular feature or piece of display, try the "Search Admin Tools" link in the admin tools menu.

The Possibility of a Brokered Convention

Last week, I received a fairly interesting e-mail from Matt Kibbe over at FreedomWorks.  The subject line ("BROKERED CONVENTION:  Who Would You Support?") I'll admit was an attention getter.

    According to the letter:

"As the Presidential race heats up, the GOP Establishment is trying to control the process and tell you that this race is all over with only few states and a miniscule number of delegates already decided.  That is simply not true.  It is still very likely that no candidate receives a majority of the delegates heading into the Republican National Convention.  If this happens and you were a delegate to the convention, you would have the opportunity to support ANYONE, whether they are currently in the race or not."

On that note, let's grab a cup of coffee and go below the fold, shall we, because this could get fairly interesting.

Applying Reagan's Eleventh Commandment . . . What Does This Mean?

As a matter of lifelong religious preference I'm a Confessional Lutheran (specifically, WELS), a point I may have made once or twice before on this site.  I recall well the catechismal training where such questions as, "What does this mean?," or "How is this done?," or "Where is this written?" were routinely asked in such a way as to prod the minds of middle-school-aged youth to master the basics of sound biblical doctrine.

Given what I am currently seeing as a predominant tendency to completely misuse a key in-party philosophy (as well as an apparent misunderstanding as to how that philosophy is to be applied), I find myself compelled to address it similarly.

A Message To Our Legislators - Beware False Choices

Why Southern Regional FairTax Director Personally Endorses Gingrich

I received an e-mail this morning from Roger Buchholtz, the North-Central Regional Director for Americans For Fair Taxation, forwarded from Sam Kemp (the South-Central Regional Director for Americans For Fair Taxation), as a follow-up to Herman Cain's endorsement of Newt Gingrich last Saturday.  As Roger said in his e-mail, "We are all struggling with finding the ideal Republican candidate.  There is none.  What we must then determine is, Who will save our nation?  A fellow FairTax Regional Director, Sam Kemp, has put this question and the answer in print below.  It is well worth the read.  Hopefully, you will find it helpful."

A point of clarification before the break:  The South-Central region consists of Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, and Oklahoma (plus perhaps one or two other connected states).  However, Mr. Kemp's primary residence is in Florida, and it's with that residence in mind that his letter is written.  Following the break is Sam Kemp's letter in its entirety.

    An Interesting Straw Poll

And it's one that Ron Paul didn't win, either.  (In fact, he didn't even come close.)

Last Sunday (December 18th), the Tea Party Patriots held a tele-forum town hall conference with over 23,000 people nationwide participating.  An introduction was provided by Emery McClendon, Julianne Thompson, Herman Cain, and Steve King.  Mitt Romney, Newt Gingrich, Michele Bachmann, and Rick Santorum were all on the call and answered a series of identical questions.  (The links, by the way, are to the audio of the introduction and of each candidate's participation.)

Apparently, toward the end of the forum, a poll was conducted (in which 4,000 of the listeners participated).  The results are . . . interesting.

Kim Jorns is the current Executive Director of the Michigan Republican Party.  Earlier this week I received a couple of e-mails from her with regard to this event:
