    Welcome to Scoop!

To help you figure things out, there is a Scoop Admin Guide which can hopefully answer most of your questions.

    Some tips:

    • Most of the layout is changed in "Blocks", found in the admin tools menu
    • Features can be turned on and off, and configured, in "Site Controls" in the admin tools menu
    • Stories have an "edit" link right beside the "Full Story" link on an index page, and right beside the "Post a Comment" link on the full story page. They can also be edited by clicking the story title in the "Story List" admin tool
    • Boxes are what allow you to write new features for Scoop; they require a knowledge of the perl programming language to work with effectively, although you can often make small changes without knowing much perl. If you would like a feature added but cannot program it yourself, ScoopHost does custom Scoop programming as one of its services.
    • If you aren't sure where to look for a particular feature or piece of display, try the "Search Admin Tools" link in the admin tools menu.

The Michigan Judicial Tenure Commission ("JTC") authorized and directed the filing of a complaint against the Hon. Diane Marie Hathaway, a Justice of the Michigan Supreme Court. The action is under the authority of the JTC under Article 6, Section 30 of the Michigan Constitution of 1963, as amended, and MCR 9.200 et seq.

For fraud, Money laundering, tax evasion, lying under oath,.. little stuff like that.

    Ouch.

AND in the mean time, the Judicial Tenure Commission has indicated it would like the Supreme court to suspend the sitting Michigan Supreme Court Justice immediately.

"The Judicial Tenure Commission, through its Examiner, requests that the Supreme Court give immediate consideration to its petition for interim suspension filed concurrently with this motion, based on the following:

    1. Respondent is, and at all material times was, a justice of the Supreme Court, State of Michigan.
    2. As a judge, Respondent is subject to all the duties and responsibilities imposed on her by the Michigan Supreme Court, including those under the Code of Judicial Conduct, and is subject to the standards for discipline set forth in MCR 9.104 and MCR 9.205.
    3. On January 7, 2013, the Michigan Judicial Tenure Commission (JTC) authorized a formal complaint (FC 91) against Hon. Diane Marie Hathaway (Respondent), currently a Justice of the Michigan Supreme Court1, and the filing of a Petition for Interim Suspension with the Supreme Court.

    ...

    1. The formal complaint and petition are also based on allegations that Respondent admitted to engaging in the fraudulent concealment of assets from potential creditors as to the Florida property, and misrepresentations to the Commission in the course of its investigation.
    2. The Supreme Court has scheduled oral arguments for Wednesday, January 9, 2013.
    3. In order to preserve the integrity of the judiciary and to protect the public, the petition for interim suspension should be considered and decided before that date.

WHEREFORE, pursuant to MCR 7.313(A)(5), the Michigan Judicial Tenure Commission requests that this Honorable Court give immediate consideration to its Petition for Interim Suspension."
    Yep.
A side note:  Respondent is disqualified from considering this motion. See MCR 2.003; MCR 9.204(A); In re Justin, 490 Mich 394 (2012).

    Ya think?

She has 14 days in which to directly respond to the complaint.

    Upton's Own Words

Lest anyone become confused about Fred Upton's positions on 'climate change', they might perhaps take time to read this at the Madison Project:
"I have said at nearly every climate change hearing that for me I don't dispute the science.  Right or wrong, the debate over the modeling and science appears to be over."

Guess who said that?  While those comments appear similar to the sentiments expressed by the likes of Al Gore, it was actually Energy and Commerce Committee Chairman Fred Upton who said it during a 2009 hearing before an E&C subcommittee hearing.

Yeah.  Not so long ago either.  The debate is over huh?

And people wonder why there isn't excitement in the elections any longer.

The Madison project points out what everyone should know, that Upton would be as comfortable on the left side of the aisle as he is presumably, by voting with the Republican Caucus.  Aside from the several extreme environmental in-your-face regulatory votes where he did in fact jump ship and vote left of center.  Like THIS VOTE. Or even a famous vote banning the incandescent bulb, and costing US Jobs in the process.

Yay! Pelosi! Woot!  Aren't you proud???!

Retire Fred.  Your heretical pandering to the big government left ideals is pathetic.

I'm with the Madison Project.  I wonder if it isn't time to go here?: DONATE TO HOOGENDYK?

A Message To Our Legislators - Beware False Choices

    New Republican Ads Target Leyton

This particular ad points out the "soft on crime" tendencies of the left.  One can argue the value of the war on drugs, but to take away the responsibility of the perps when violence is done is where justice drives off a cliff.

    David?  They ARE Criminals.

And the Democrats could have had Richard Bernstein.  Some of us are still scratching our heads on the decision of Leyton over Bernstein.  Something behind the scenes in the Michigan Democrat party process is quite stinky indeed..  Perhaps Richard Bernstein wouldn't tow the line to Brewer and company?

Regressisphere, MSM response to Dem attacks on Michigan: *crickets chirping*

Remember a few months back when the Big 3 made their second appearance in Washington, DC, hat in hand begging for their lives (or at least the ability to maintain something relatively close to the status quo)?

There were those in Congress who stood up and lambasted the Detroit auots.  They said that we here in Great Lakes State were out of step, that we didn't build cars people wanted and that a pair of uniquely Michigan companies didn't deserve the same sort of economic restart that had just been handed out in spades to the bad players in the banking and financial services industry.

The response, especially from union members and Democrats was down right apoplectic.  How DARE anyone question the Big 3?  How dare those folks in Washington question Michigan manufacturers and blue collar workers?  Especially after the Congress had just given so many billions to their friends who happened to hold their mortgages back at home.

Frankly, a lot of those criticisms were spot-on accurate.  Michigan did get a bum rap.  The Big 3 hasn't coaxed nearly enough concessions out of Big Labor, but they're working on it (often without a good-faith partner in the form of UAW leadership, but that's not their fault).  Similarly, our domestic automobile industry is leading the world right now in so-called "green vehicles," making fuel efficiency cool and affordable while pioneering battery technology for the first wave of gas-free autos.

There was a glaring double-standard in the way different companies were being treated and the Washington insiders WERE picking on us like they hadn't picked on anyone else.

Wait, did someone mention double-standards?  Oh, right, that was me.  Good point about double-standards, Nick!  (You can't see me right now but if you could you'd see that I'm slapping my own back.)
