When Life Is Better Than Death

I had for a long time been a proponent of the death sentence.

Over the years, it wasn't just a casual consideration that brought into focus what is more of an appropriate punishment for a heinous crime such as murder or other violent acts that leave so many scarred forever.  It seemed that a logical non emotional solution was simply removing the offender from the face of the the earth forever.  Punishment that seemed so easily to fit a crime that cannot ever be properly redeemed.

An eye for an eye as it has been explained.

And the left has cried foul over the death penalty for those found guilty forever. They have exclaimed "Thou hypocrites!  When dost think it be right to murder a man for his deed, when crying foul for our murder of innocence in the womb?" "Do you so despise life as much as we?!"

hate to say it. Good point.  Better to let them claim the role as purveyors of wrongful death.

    But still ..

Michigan, by statute in 1846, abolished the death penalty.  In 1964, it constitutionally prohibited it.  And one must ask if life in prison is really a better fate than a merciful death. Especially when that life is especially long.

    More below ~

And long years might well remind those who consider such atrocity as the murdering of young girls, long outside the womb that punishment can indeed be drawn out and purposeful.

Even then it seems that some punishment is not sufficient:

HOW HE KILLED GIRL AGED 9

Had to Kill Her So She Wouldn't Tell Her Mother

DETROIT, Feb 18 - "I had to kill her- so she would't tell her mother."

Calm and dry eyed, 16 year old Floyd Diamond told state police today in gruesome detail how he stabbed and killed pretty 9-year-old Kathleen (Kathy) McLaughlin last night and left her body in an icy pond.
Oakland County prosecutor Fred C. Ziem said the youth's story to state authorities was almost exactly as he had told it to him three hours earlier after the girls distraught father lifted the battered body from the freezing waters.

    ...

Read the awful details here if you must.

And on June 12, maybe we could remind those on the parole board that our 'enlightened' state of Michigan could have forgotten this horror story so many years ago with a flip of a switch as so many other states might have done.

Pretty little Kathy isn't around to remind them.

"The Michigan Parole Board will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, June 12, 2012 to consider the possible parole of Floyd Diamond, #089977. It will be held at 9:00 a.m. at the Handlon Training Center; Richard A. Handlon Correctional Facility in Ionia, Michigan.

Floyd Diamond is serving a Life sentence for the crime of Second Degree Murder. He was sentenced on June 20, 1955 out of Oakland County.

Thomas R. Combs, Chairperson of the Michigan Parole Board, will conduct the hearing under the provisions of the Lifer Law, MCLA 791.234. "

    57 years?  No.  Not enough.

57 years of feeding and providing medical care for a bastard that knifed, then finally bludgeoned a girl half his age to death with a jagged rock.

Sorry, hate to part ways on the caving to the Liberals crap to justify killing babies, but there is a difference in one being anti-abortion, and the rubes that fly the Pro-Life banner.

To clear the air on exactly where I stand: I would've sentenced that steaming POS Floyd Diamond to 30 days in the electric chair with time off for good behavior.  Whatever isn't crispy is free to go.

    End of story.

Three concurrent Life sentences: 1985.  Prior drug conviction: 1981.

Cost of Liberalism: thus enters taxpayer subsidized parasitic shyster from Michigan's foremost hostile educationcrat liberal cesspool interjecting his pro bono "No Justice - No Peace" contempt for Law upon us taxpayers with additional burden due to the aforementioned POS assertion that he was not receiving his second cataract surgery via the schedule demands of the "paying his debt to society" thrice Life incarcerated.

A return to the gallows would suit this Michigan taxpayer just fine.  Welcomed actually.

Why is is far easier to put down an animal that has done no harm to anyone, as illustrated by the good people at the Michigan Humane Society of all places, than it is to put down a feral one like the example above?

    Mull that one over?
