Who are the NERD fund donors Mr Snyder?

    Raise the curtain.

Today was a day that might forever change the direction of this country.

Amidst several hundred bussed in union protesters (some of them being unruly - see below the fold) and threats of violence, the Michigan legislature passed two important measures ensuring labor freedom in our great state:

HB 4054 of 2011    Local government; other; right-to-work zone; permit. Amends sec. 14 of 1939 PA 176 (MCL 423.14) & adds sec. 14a.

    &

SB 0116 of 2011    Labor; collective bargaining; right-to-work zones; allow local units of government to establish. Amends sec. 14 of 1939 PA 176 (MCL 423.14) & adds sec. 14a.

4054 may have to be reconsidered because of a procedural move by the Dems, but apparently SB106 will be the measure the house will finalize on Tuesday.  there is also a Senate bill (still working on this) that passed 22-4 when the cowardly Dems walked out.

In an interview with The Associated Press, Snyder said he had kept the issue at arm's length while pursuing other programs to bolster the state economy. But he said circumstances had pushed the matter to the forefront.

"It is a divisive issue," he acknowledged. "But it was already being divisive over the past few weeks, so let's get this resolved. Let's reach a conclusion that's in the best interests of all."
In fact, as I type this, Rick Snyder is on Greta VanSusteren on FOX.

He sounded good.  His words on the Freedom To Work legislation are identical to the words we have used here and elsewhere. Choice, opportunity, freedom.  His pledge to sign the bills as soon as they reach his desk could literally change the nation's future.  This historic event is nothing short of amazing and couldn't come soon enough.

Thank you to those who today wrapped up a very impressive Christmas present for all Michiganders, and the rest of the country as well.

Prouder than ever to be a part of this great State.

    As promised..

I had just reached the second floor, and all of a sudden the state police were rushing towards the chambers.  Apparently a couple of protesters broke into the session and started yelling.  They were summarily aprehended, maced, and arrested. (Not necessarily in that order) Their pictures are available on nearly any news site already.

Nice assortment of Proudhon geriatrics, and Emma Goldman malcontents.

Hope ya have a Noritz.  There's not a big enough tank style water heater made for the shower required from being in that crowd.

Who were the 6 Republican "No" votes? (none / 0) (#3)

Since the journal hasn't been published yet.

And the more important question: Who are our primary challengers for those 6 people?

Letter to my Senator (none / 0) (#12)
by LookingforReagan on Fri Dec 07, 2012 at 11:14:24 AM EST
    Senator Nofs,
As someone who has supported you for many years both as my State Representative and Senator I was very disappointed that you chose to stand with the Thugs that make up the Labor movement in this state. I have long supported Right to Work for freedom of choice by Michigan workers. As someone who was FORCED to pay extortion money to a union I didn't want to belong to and see that money given as political contributions to left wing causes and candidates that I was totally opposed to. The unions at one time might have served a purpose. The goals they sought for their members have been achieved and are now protected by Federal law.
One of the biggest reasons that companies and corporations have left Michigan is because of the labor unions. Even though they continue to represent fewer and fewer members the money they spread around to political candidates and office holders gives them more power then they rightfully should have. As a result Michigan has seen a downturn in jobs coming here and have had to watch as other states were able to compete from a better position for those jobs.
The day of organized labor has come and gone (thankfully). We saw yesterday the type of tactics preferred by the left. Threats, destruction of property, and intimidation. All tactics of the labor movement that has marked their history since day one. They are more like the Brown Shirts of the NAZI Party in Germany on the 1920's and 1930's.
Ever been to a Tea Party Senator? You won't see that kind of thing. The participants leave the venue as clean as they found it and nothing gets broken unless some Marxist types from the Left infiltrate the proceedings.
I am letting you know that I will not support you in anyway for any political office in the future. Your vote yesterday told me that we don't share the same vision for Michigan or America. Our values are different. I believe in freedom and liberty. The right to make my choice of what to be a member of is dear to me. I should not be FORCED to pay money to a group or organization that I despise in order to get and retain a good paying job. That is not free choice.
As your vote proves you stand with the left and must agree and approve of the thuggish tactics that are part of the SOP of those in the so called labor movement.

    Missed opportunity (none / 0) (#15)

Why were the police and fire unions excluded? Their gold plated retirements are one of the reasons so many cities and townships are upside down right now. I understand it made it more politically palatable, but they still left some unfinished business. Unions are unions and no one should be exempt from RTW.
