I don't care if a person is Gay.

    I don't want to know.

Traverse City has just passed the Discrimination ordinance that now includes a homosexual provision.

It gives the hammer of homophobic suspicion to workers who might be gay.  It helps no other.  It enumerates a special "protection" for those who might feel they have been "discriminated" against by an employer, or landlord.  Based on a set of decisions and a lifestyle that involves an unnatural sexual persuasion.  One that is a right..  but within one's own bedroom.

A City Commission has just conferred special rights upon a certain segment of its population.

Curious about the language? Here is a link to the proposed (now passed) ordinance.

The word is homosexual not gay.

Gay is a feeling of happiness or a particular set of circumstances which bring one into a moment of joyfulness.

Homosexual means exactaly that - same sex.

I would like to submit that this word (and the rainbow) were a part of the nomenclature long before this was ever considered a "lifestyle".

I want the word(and our rainbow) back.

    Have a gay day!

-- TC passes an ordinance that essentially recognizes homosexuality as a distinct, objective human identity.
--We object to giving homosexuals protected status.
Both sides miss the point that there IS no such thing as being "a homosexual" in any scientifically definable sense.  There are people who have a (possibly transient) self-sex attraction.  But the idea of "being gay" in the same sense that one is black is ludicrous.
This is like one side in a debate demanding rights for unicorns, while the other side hates and fears unicorns.  Neither side has noticed that there isn't any such thing.

If you are looking to cut government... (none / 0) (#5)

...my first suggestion would be to eliminate the "Human Rights" Commission.

Another redundant layer of government who feels that they can determine what are rights (Declaration of Independence, anyone?), often at conflict with other cities/states.

The money saved in lawsuits defending its position should be enough justification for that decision.
