    EPA Impact On Michigan

So just when we thought there was light at the end of the tunnel.. We find we are looking at the headlight of an oncoming train.

After examining the EPA's proposed regulatory framework to limit Ozone to 60 ppb from its current 75 ppb, the Manufacturer's Alliance has presented its estimate of impact on Jobs and the economy.  Their initial impact assessment shows:

    • The annual attainment cost is estimated to be $1.013 trillion between 2020 and 2030 (in 2010 dollars). This is equivalent to 5.4 percent of projected constant dollar gross domestic product (GDP) in 2020. The present value of attainment costs over this period amounts to $7.1 trillion (based on a discount rate of 7 percent).
    • GDP would be reduced by $676.8 billion in 2020 (in 2010 dollars), an amount that represents 3.6 percent of projected 2020 GDP in the baseline case.
    • Together, annual attainment costs and reduced GDP in 2020 total $1.7 trillion.
    • Total U.S. job losses attributable to a 60 ppb ozone standard are estimated to rise to 7.3 million by 2020, a figure that is equal to 4.3 percent of the projected 2020 labor force.
    • The marginal cost of attaining the primary ozone standard rises rapidly as the ozone standard becomes more stringent.

And they only do it because they love us.

Governor Granholm has been in lock step with this type of green activism by the executive types, and has eagerly supported the damaging eco-legislation by congress for years. In fact I believe the term "blown away" refers to the results of her posture on manufacturing, which was once upon a time THE Domain of Michigan entrepreneurial activity.

Michigan conservative Congressional hopefuls need to strap on the koohonies if they don't come naturally however.  About the ONLY WAY to stop this damaging process, is to A. Get elected, and B. Agree to DE-FUND the EPA in its entirety.  Take away its money 100%.  Eliminate its ability to survive and act. Destroy it.

    Michigan's future depends on it.

In fact, the study shows Michigan, which currently holds an official 13.6% unemployment rate could again begin to shed what few jobs remain.  Another 122,000 jobs gone, mostly from the manufacturing sector and its related support industries.  Add to this an additional $23,000,000,000.00 (in 2010 dollars - with the oncoming inflation, you might have guessed it will be more) in energy taxes that we all pay, and well..  you get the picture.

You know..  One would think that even liberals and moderates have to have SOME breaking point.. right?

But alas..  Our government will further tie the hands of manufacturers, who ALREADY have trouble negotiating with big labor and make their operations even more un-profitable in the future.

    To remain here.

And when I am saying remain HERE, I mean in this country, much less the state.  The impact on Michigan, may well be mitigated by the already existing destruction wrought by overly ambitious green initiatives.  there just are not AS MANY jobs left to wreck.  Some other bordering states Namely Ohio and Illinois are facing as dire a certainty of lost jobs.

Hello.. message to labor?  Don't you get it yet?  This guy (Obama) YOUR guy is sticking it to you.  Isn't it easier to negotiate a better contract for your members if there is a DEMAND for your UNION members?   Just thought I would send out this little reminder. (Republicans.. Take note.. Drive this home)

And yes..  The light you see at the end of the tunnel really is a headlight coming at you, but its a high efficiency (Chinese) CFL, and wasn't very bright.. and that only means the oncoming train has been much closer than you thought all along.

    EPA (none / 0) (#1)

Extreme Progressive Adgenda. Yes, agreed. One of three federal agencies or departments that have harmed the US and taken rights away from the people. The EPA, Dept of Education and the Dept of Energy all need to be dismantled and done away with. Since the inception of EPA federal overreach has gotten worse when it comes to wet lands, navigable waterways, manufacturing. Via the EPA, Socialists have been able to punish those who achieve using those that feel they are owed as the basis for their victims parade and war against manufacturing in the US. I wish somebody would include a chart of the number of manufacturing jobs that were in the US in 1950 and show the steady decline since. You can bet that the chart would show that the number of lost manufacturing jobs would dramatically increase at the point when the EPA was authorised and went into business. Another way the America haters have taken from us in order to redistribute to the rest of the world. A nation that can produce nothing is at the mercy of other nations including nations like RED China that seek to do us harm. Check out the story on the Drudge Report that China is now purchasing oil land in Texas. If we produce nothing we are nothing and that my friends is the aim of Obama and the rest of the Commie Lib Progressives in this country and their minions around the world.

    I've heard this tune before. (none / 0) (#2)

Michigan's leadership/representation, with the noticeable exception of the wild-card Rick Snyder, isn't as much of a problem as it is other states.

Like I mentioned in the subject line before, this was promised back in '94 with the Contract with America.

Republicans were supposed to get voted in and clean house.

They got voted in alright, but what about the programs that were promised to be eliminated?

"The party that in 1994 would abolish the Department of Education now brags in response to Clinton's 2000 State of the Union Address that it is outspending the White House when it comes to education. My colleagues Stephen Moore and Stephen Slivinski found that the combined budgets of the 95 major programs that the Contract with America promised to eliminate have increased by 13%."

We're hearing the same talk this election with the Pledge to America.

Rep Boehner has recently reiterated dealing with one of the items contained in the pledge just yesterday, the repeal of Obamacare.

Myself, I'd like to see them go one step further.

On Page 33, the pledge states:

"For too long, Congress has ignored the proper limits imposed by the Constitution on the federal government. Further, it has too often drafted unclear and muddled laws, leaving to an unelected judiciary the power to interpret what the law means and by what authority the law stands. This lack of respect for the clear Constitutional limits and authorities has allowed Congress to create ineffective and costly programs that add to the massive deficit year after year. We will require each bill moving through Congress to include a clause citing the specific constitutional authority upon which the bill is justified."

By default, that includes ALL of the alphabet agencies.

EPA, DOT (good riddance Ray LaHood-rino), FCC, etc.

The GOP can take action to eliminate this problem as the first order of business when Congress reconvenes in Jan 2011. What Pres. B.O. does is obviously out of their hands, but will be an sure-fire indicator of whether or not he'll be bounced in '12.

Now the $64 question here is: Will the GOP man-up and actually follow through with their pledge?

You can add NOAA to the list (none / 0) (#3)

Here is another federal agency with the jackbooted thug mentality. It needs to go. No reform, no redesign, just get rid of it. http://www.americanthinker.com/2010/10/the_hubris_of_noaa.html
This article at the American Thinker provides ample evidence of the fact. Let a few burerucrats lose their jobs and have their futures ruined.

The EPA is Out Of Control (none / 0) (#6)
by steve on Wed Oct 13, 2010 at 08:35:07 PM EST
Not only is the EPA out of control with all the nonsense regarding Ozone and CO2, Obama and his crew are using the EPA as an unaccountable hammer for Environmental Justice initiatives, including one that will affect us in Michigan, "The Great Lakes Initiative."
