    The World According to Me

[editor's note, by JGillman] Copying over the activity as it is posted on her blog.

12:02 apackof2: Hello, sitting in the House Gallery...roll call on HB 4436

12:10 apackof2: the House is in a lock down mode...no lunch..

12:20 apackof2: Barb Byrum...my rep :( calling the Dims to lunch room ....

12:41 apackof2: Sitting next to some "Proud MEA Members" according to their buttons...moving now

12:44 apackof2: Not much going on..sems to be a fair amount of stalling

12:50 apackof2: Another Grassroots in Michigan member just joined me in the House Gallery, Richard "worninshoes"

1:08 apackof2: Just came in from Battle Creek....school kids on a field trip...asked them if they knew what was happening..Tyler said "They are voting on a budget"

1:09 apackof2: Harper Creek school district..Beadle Lake Elementary School....cute kids

1:14 apackof2: Rep Bolger district 63 just welcomed Battle Creek kids (his district)

1:21 Just whipped over to the senate.. quiet.. was told the Republicans were in Caucus

    1:34 apackof2: House back...but no action so far...waiting

    1:47 apackof2: Still waiting....

2:03 apackof2: There is supposed to be a protest out front going on right now..running down to check it out but leaving Richard to man the board while I am gone..hope to have a YouTube video and or pictures to post

2:05 [Comment From @efricke] 2 p.m. the protest is supposed to start now. I hope many showed.

2:16 apackof2: Board cleared, Democrats to caucus, vote on revenue sharing to locals held up

2:26 apackof2: Overheard: "They'll get the votes." This to MEA bigwigs nearby. Worry is if they can't muster local revenue sharing they'll certainly fail on K-12. "Maybe another hour," said the monkey to the thief. I don't know - I think it's the usual uplifting positive BS instead of facing reality. ~shoes

2:42 apackof2: Overheard: Senate is dealing with K-12 school issue..MEA is here twisting arms...here in the House the measure of local revenue sharing appears to have failed..the Board was cleared..Dims in caucus searching for enough votes to pass

2:53 apackof2: House Bill 4447 Roll Call 476 education bill Surrounded by MEA

3:05 apackof2: Voting now on Seante conference vote on education budget..Roll Call 476...waiting for hopefully a yes vote

3:05 [Comment From Stephanie] Where the heck is someone speaking for NO NEW TAXES?!

3:06 apackof2: Because everyone I 've heard so far is in the tank for MEA...

3:07 Twitter FedUpUSA: #MI #Michigan Some Tea Partiers Starting To Assemble. #NONEWMITAXES

3:42 apackof2: From Jack McHugh's blog "2010 K-12 School Aid Fund in such a way that it would reduce the foundation allowance by $218 per student. If enacted, this will yield a total School Aid Fund savings of $346.4 million..... According to ALEC, the average teacher salary in the United States for 2006-2007 was $46,593. Michigan has the 4th highest paid teachers on the list, with an average salary of $58,482. By comparison, the state of Washington is ranked 22nd and is representative of a state that was paying teachers closer to the national average: $46,326.

3:42 apackof2: Still waiting...Dim cacus still out...MEA arm twisitng big time going on

3:48 apackof2: Still waiting for vote K-12 funding vote..live blogging from MI House...

5:01 apackof2: HB 5126 being voted on now...it's going to pass

5:20 apackof2: Patriots gathering outside for a Storm the Castle protest of any new taxes in the budget

[editor's note, by JGillman] The K-12 Vote reveals some potential problems. It appears a number of targeted Republicans by the MEA have gone to the dark side. CALL THEM TO FIND OUT More at the Mackinac Center

[editor's note, by JGillman] Update - 6:30 It appears the Governor wants a "continuation budget" which requires a trip back through the senate, and the willingness of 3 or 4 Democrat Senators to get on board.. (They apparently did NOT do this the first time out) Perhaps Madame governor wishes to have more time for the MEA and other interested LABOR to twist arms.. The continuation budget is apparently a 1/12th of the Dillon Bishop deal which cuts $1.2B, so to make it happen will require more conversions.

7:41 apackof2: Nothing is moving..reps are listening to music, milling around, eating, reading...all on our dime! Movement is being held up by "negotiations" over $218 loss per pupil for K-12 even though MI is 4th highest in the nation AND the general budget

7:41 [Comment From maidintheus] We're at home lifting you up. Thanks for the updates everyone!

7:41 [Comment From Guest] Anything happening?

    7:48 apackof2: HB 511 Roll Call 476

7:56 Twitter FedUpUSA: #MI #Michigan House Brings To The Floor HB 5311 - To Sunset The 'Alternative Prison' Bootcamp - Passes unanimously. #NONEWMITAXES

7:59 Twitter FedUpUSA: #MI #Michigan Mostly It Seems We Pay These Guys To Mill Around and Eat M&Ms and Drink Coffee. #NONEWMITAXES

7:59 Twitter apackof2: Still at MI House Gallery..seems to be arm twisting by MEA not to give up$218 per pupil in state with 4th highest cost in nation #MIbudget

8:25 apackof2: this is like watching grass grow..

8:47 apackof2: Budget legislation is a slow process! The simpler the solution the longer it has to simmer. Late nights and dark secrets abount. Skubick has the only scoop and he ain't talkin' to anyone but the front row on the floor. But it's Howdy Doody time in the peanut gallery. ~shoes

9:14 [Comment From Shell] Skubick still thinks the shutdown won't happen (WWJ)

    9:15 [Comment From maidintheus] I'm still here...hoping...praying.

9:26 [Comment From maidintheus] If anyone wants to comment about a shutdown, that would be interesting. There's hype and politics on it but not facts. What would be the up and downsides? I know gov't employees wouldn't get paid, the union would not be happy. Everyone I know would get up, go to work, get paid, pay taxes...and find out what that contingency plan is really about.

9:32 apackof2: Here is a link from 2 years ago about about what is affected with a government shut down,..its from the Free Press so take it with a grain of salt...http://www.wzzm13.com/news/news_article.aspx?storyid=81241

9:34 [Comment From maidintheus] Okay and thanks!!!

9:43 apackof2: Jack Hoodendyke is here to my left..he is live blogging here http://www.jackformichigan.org/

9:49 Twitter apackof2: RT @SenCameronBrown: MSP budget with $70 million HQ fails again in Senate. 2 hours left in the fiscal year. #mibudget #NONEWTAXES #MITCOT

9:51 apackof2: Never disregard "the link" LOL! although he hasn't posted my comment in 15 minutes..

10:00 apackof2: The Dems have the MEA breathing down their backs..probably 1/2 of the folks in the Gallery now are MEA...so the Dims are trying to come up SOMETHING for an appeasement

10:03 [Comment From maidintheus] I hope the Dems are convinced that the voters will be even more plentiful with a lot more breathing.

10:12 [Comment From Joyful] what is the turnout? Is anyone standing strong against taxes?

10:12 [Comment From Jason] K-12 plan gutted.

10:13 [Comment From maidintheus] Thanks for the update, apack! I hope the Repubs say, "you want a piece? Bring it on!" Preach to choir: MEA et al, so conflict of interest. The only people there should be the citizens and journalists.

10:16 apackof2: Well so far a whole lot of nothing has been said on the floor....but behind closed doors...we can only hope there are some Republicans laying down the law

    10:17 apackof2: Jason....explain "gutted"

10:19 Twitter apackof2: RT @MISenDems: Immediate effect fails on Higher Ed. budget that slashes Promise scholarships #NONEWTAXES <-------- #mitcot

10:20 [Comment From maidintheus] Message to legislators: Remember the townhalls!! Gutted probably means they've removed most cuts. Repubs need to keep their fingerprints off before AND AFTER!

10:21 apackof2: Tweet from MISenDems seems to indicate that the Promise scholarships are cut so they are holding out

10:28 Twitter Built_To_Resist: RT @FedUpUSA: #MI #Michigan Mostly It Seems We Pay These Guys To Mill Around and Eat M&Ms and Drink Coffee. #NONEWMITAXES 10:33 apackof2: Count down to shut down..1 hour 27 minutes

10:35 Twitter apackof2: Count down to shut down of MI government 1 hour 25 minutes #NONEWTAXES 3MITCOT #michigan

10:43 [Comment From maidintheus] Having these update are grrreat! Thanks! I pray our R's stay strong and don't go all Olympia Snowe.

10:56 apackof2: From Dave Agema on FB "It's 1045 pm. The Senate just took a vote on the democrats income tax hike- it had only two votes in favor. So, the dems want to spend more but aren't willing vote for a tax increase and they don't want to cut and they didn't ha...ve a plan. We did and do, but they won't let us vote, NUTS!

10:57 [Comment From JM] So what's this lively little GOP caucus underway right now in the middle of their section? It looks like Bill Rogers is holding forth on something - whether it's MSU's prospects Saturday or "you better hang tough on the K-12 budget, you RINOs" I have no idea.

[editor's note, by JGillman] Perhaps there is a light at the end of this tunnel. Apparently the K-12 cut may pass but with $170 or something close to that with a stimulus carryover. This rather than a $218.. Thats right kids.. pack your lunch buckets in the morning.. you still have school.

[editor's note, by JGillman] Word now has it ..WRONG answer on that last update.. Snow day tomorrow?

12:07 [Comment From JM] Paul Scott also commented on his status: " I wouldn't listen to the folks in the peanut gallary who don't know how government works. I'm working to get a deal done that can PASS without raising taxes. Very simple, but not for the simple minded."

12:08 apackof2: I packed up and headed home and its 12:08 and the MI government is shut down
