Does Cherry support Dem move to drive Auto Show OUT of MI? Never mind, he's not taking questions

Apparently John Cherry has better things to do.  As Dennis mentioned this morning, the Democrats likely 2010 gubernatorial candidate is making waves on Mackinac Island today by refusing to participate in a candidate forum with other candidates from both major Parties.

    Pete Hoekstra will be there.

Terri Lynn Land will be there.

    Tom George will be there.

Mike Cox will be there the day after officially announcing his candidacy along with a pledge to cut taxes on Michigan residents by a full $2 BILLION!

Heck, even radical pro-abortion candidate Alma Wheeler Smith will be there representing the Democrats.

    Cherry... not so much.

Then again, if I were a part of a Democratic administration that was responsible for the largest tax hike in Michigan history, chronic budget "deficits" and thorough economic stagnation I'd probably duck a debate in front of the state's most prominent business leaders, too.

Why give voters... ANY voters... any extra opportunity to examine the goods... so to speak?

At first I thought we were looking at a case of abject political cowardice but I've since mellowed.  I hadn't considered the alternative.

    Read on...

If you've had your radio on here in the Grand Rapids market the last few days you've already had the opportunity to examine Cherry's goods.  The Lieutenant Governor is now on the air spending our tax dollars to do public service announcements telling listeners that some businesses are "bad guys" who take advantage of everyday people... the "good guys."

No sense debating your opponents when you can go around them and burn through taxpayer cash to increase your name ID.  Shrewd move.  Especially because when Michigan voters shout questions and various exclamations at the man through the radio he can't actually hear them to answer.

Meanwhile, back in the state Senate, where Cherry presides on a daily basis, the GOP majority yesterday approved a plan to give the Detroit City Council one more chance to accept free cash to repair and save everyone's favorite "jewel" of the D... Cobo Hall.

Sixteen Democrats voted against the legislation because it comes with a fall-back plan.  Should the Democrats on the Detroit City Council decline the free cash... again... then the city of Novi would get a crack at it in an effort to actually keep the Detroit International Auto Show in the State that put the world on wheels.

Apparently Senate Dems are OK with the show leaving Michigan.

I'd love to know what Cherry thought of the legislation.  Alas, he's not taking questions today.

It'll be good to hear Rick Snyder's answers at the debate, too -- is it streamed online or on the radio anywhere? Good to have this sort of public event

I'm dying to see the specifics on Mike Cox's proposal/pledge to cut taxes by $2 Billion.
