The Sad State Of Affairs In Detroit And Michigan

Two stories that encapsulate the sad state of affairs in Detroit and Michigan.

    Falling apart

The first story making the rounds is the promise of `stimulus' dollars being given away at Cobo Hall. Rush Limbaugh played clips from WJR where the reporter was asking one of the people lined up for `where is this stimulus money coming from?" The lady in line answered "I don't know...His [Obama's] stash, I don't know".

Then she started an `O-Ba-Ma! O-Ba-ma!" chant.

    Wonderful.

Seriously, wasn't the "American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009" supposed to be about creating job's and not about creating more welfare.

With Democrats in charge, job's and the economy evaporate

Detroit has been run for nearly fifty years by Democrats. The city has not had a Republican mayor since Louis Miriani, whose term ended in 1962. The State of Michigan is on pace to lose over 1 million jobs under the empathetic Democrat, Jennifer Granholm. The United States has lost jobs at a ferocious pace since Democrats seized Congress after the 2006 election.

With the Democrats stellar record of job destruction, I'm in awe that anyone conscious would vote for them.

One needs to look no further than the silver bullet approach to the economy the city of Detroit has taken. The city has added casinos and they are still broke and losing jobs. The city has constructed two beautiful new stadiums and the city is still broke and losing jobs. The city has constructed a beautiful River Walk, hosted the Super Bowl, The Final Four,  several Grand Prix's, Red Bull Air Races and The MLB All Star Game. Yet, the city is still broke and has an unemployment rate of 28.2%.

The city of Detroit (and Michigan) needs to get back to basics with low taxes, creating a business friendly atmosphere where jobs can be created and economic activity can increase. Also, it needs to create an environment where people actually want to live.

The State Of Michigan is broke and unemployment is over 15%, what is Lansing's big idea?

The State of Michigan is looking to increase bar hours to 4am and allowing people to purchase liquor before noon on Sunday's in an effort to squeeze more tax dollars out of the people of Michigan.

This has to be the crassest idea I've seen in a long time.

I'm a big personal freedom, personal responsibility guy. But, to increase tax `revenues' to the state, the government wants to promote more drinking, more drunk driving tickets, more drunk driving accidents and for the people with alcohol issues, more time to drink.

The State of Michigan will not cut the SBT, the gas tax, sales tax, personal income tax in an effort to spur economic activity and grow the economy. The state will not allow school vouchers to improve the education system in the state and attract young families. The state will not build real power plants; or reduce regulations in any area except one...

Relaxing alcohol regulations to squeeze more money out of it citizens.

2010 can't get here fast enough.

I'm an optimist, so I think there is hope that we can get a conservative state government and start turning the tide.

But are we at a tipping point yet? (none / 0) (#5)

If you have more people working than not, then there still is a chance that people will take notice and demand that government take a more limited role in society.

But if the reverse held true: Game Over.

The democrats and the looters they bribe with other people's money will have won, and there will be no going back.

    Right!

He won't send his brother that lives in a mud hut, $10.

Like all liberal lunatics, Obama doesn't want to help anyone.  He won't give one cent of his own money to help anybody.  But he wants to steal other people's money and redistribute it.

    God help us!

There are great and precious promises in the Bible, for those who believe.

I'm asking all believers to search them out...
