Pro-Life Bart Stupak (D-MI) FRAUD! Will Vote For Obamcare With Abortion Coverage!!!

You may be thinking - hey! It's not Friday yet! Yes, my post this week on the pro-life issue is a couple of days early simply because of this breaking news. No offense to my co-bloggers that tend to post on Wednesdays. It is not too late for those of you in District 1 to contact Stupak and remind him who voted him into office. So onto the breaking news:

I'm sorry to say that I saw this one coming miles away and months ago. I wrote exactly of this very thing earlier this year. I was tipped off to this video over at The Foundry by several emails today and sure enough, here is Stupak admitting that he will vote for nationalizing the healthcare system including taxpayer funded abortions:

If everything I want [is] in the final bill, I like everything in the bill except you have public funding for abortion, and we had a chance to run our amendment and we lost. OK, I voted my conscience, stayed true to my principles, stayed true to the beliefs of this district, could I vote for healthcare? Yes I still could. -Bart Stupak

Here's the kicker - the video was made after Stupak banned videotaping his public meetings!

    More below the fold...

The title of the Foundry post is this: How Pro-life Dems Will Justify Voting for Taxpayer-funded Abortions.

Earlier today, The Foundry wrote about Rep. Bart Stupak's (D-Mich) claim that he and like-minded, pro-life Democrats will work with Republicans to "torpedo healthcare reform unless he gets a vote to strip abortion-related provisions out of the House bill," as reported by The Hill.

That sounded like good news, but in an exclusive Foundry video of a town hall held in Cheboygan, Mich., on Saturday, it appears that Stupak intends to vote for the Democrats' healthcare reform, even if it includes public funding for abortion.

Ugh... I wrote a post on my own blog all the way back in July of this year with pro-life Democrats in general and Bart Stupak in particular. You get the idea of what I was writing about from the title: There's no such thing as a moderate Democrat, only liberal Democrats in conservative districts. Example #2,927 - Bart Stupak. My hypothesis back then is that there is no such thing as a truly pro-life Democrat. By that, I mean that the life issue to a pro-life Democrat like Stupak is just one of many competing issue and other issues could trump the pro-life one when push comes to shove. That is not what a true pro-life politician is like. In the post above, as well as other more recent posts such as those below, I pointed out several Stupak comments that literally let the cat out of the bag. Here is my most recent summary of my own observation:
As I have said many times in this blog, there is no such thing as a moderate or conservative Democrat, only liberal Democrats serving in moderate or conservative districts. I have posted several times specifically on Stupak, including this:
The complicated situation, however, is Stupak's:
In the House, U.S. Rep. Bart Stupak, a Menominee Democrat and abortion rights opponent, has told Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., that he and 40 other moderate members of the party could move to block the reform bill if they don't get a chance to vote on an amendment that would make certain federal funds aren't used to pay for abortions
This is softer than many may read. They could block, but that doesn't mean they will block, the legislation. And the exception is that they get to vote on the amendment, not that it passes. As I have mentioned many times before, this is entirely consistent with what is coming out of the Stupak camp off-camera through the dinosaur print media:
It's not make-or-break to his support of the bill ultimately, [Stupak] said. But he wants it considered.
    Here's another snippet:
Stupak ... "doesn't oppose a public option," his spokeswoman, Michelle Begnoche , said. "No one issue will dictate his final vote. He will look at the bill in its totality when he makes his decision."
About says it all regarding Stupak. You have to wonder about the game within the game here. 41 purported pro-life Democrats exist that could block the legislation, and all of them are needed. What do you think the odds are that 3 or 4 of the safest ones will peal off from that crowd allowing the other 37 to save face, vote against it to look good to their constituents, but still let the horrible legislation to pass anyway. It's typical modus operindi for Democrats. Lie, cheat, steal. I find that offensive.
The game within the game. Don't. Be. Fooled!
Except that many were fooled, especially those that voted for Stupak in District 1 thinking him to be staunchly pro-life. Right to Life of Michigan did the pro-life community a great disservice by putting their considerable weight behind him. And they may be partly culpable in having taxpayer funded abortions coming down the pike here in Michigan and nationwide. Thanks a lot. Could they have known better? Yes. How? Because people like me have been saying forever that THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A PRO-LIFE DEMOCRAT! Can you hear us now???

Stupak is a fraud. An enemy of the pro-life movement. Stupak on the surface has some genuine pro-life credentials based on his voting record, including:

    • Voted NO on expanding research to more embryonic stem cell lines. (Jan 2007)
    • Voted NO on allowing human embryonic stem cell research. (May 2005)
    • Voted YES on restricting interstate transport of minors to get abortions. (Apr 2005)
    • Voted YES on making it a crime to harm a fetus during another crime. (Feb 2004)
    • Voted YES on banning partial-birth abortion except to save mother's life. (Oct 2003)
    • Voted YES on forbidding human cloning for reproduction & medical research. (Feb 2003)
    • Voted YES on funding for health providers who don't provide abortion info. (Sep 2002)
    • Voted YES on banning Family Planning funding in US aid abroad. (May 2001)
    • Voted YES on federal crime to harm fetus while committing other crimes. (Apr 2001)
    • Voted YES on banning partial-birth abortions. (Apr 2000)
    • Voted YES on barring transporting minors to get an abortion. (Jun 1999)
    • Rated 0% by NARAL, indicating a pro-life voting record. (Dec 2003)
    • Rated 100% by the NRLC, indicating a pro-life stance. (Dec 2006)
    • Prohibit transporting minors across state lines for abortion. (Jan 2008)
So I ask you, again, what good is a liberal Democrat pretending to be middle-of-the-road since he serves in a right-of-center district? When push comes to shove, these supposedly reliable conservative votes on issues like abortion will fall apart like a cheap K-Mart picnic table. What good were all the reliable Stupak pro-life votes (you wonder how many of them he cast knowing that his vote didn't make a difference either way) I listed above? Compared to this legislation, they have all been for naught. It was an illusion. A mirage. A slight of hand. He pulled the wool over voters eyes. You simple CANNOT TRUST THESE PEOPLE! Especially with the life of the unborn! There are no moderate or conservative Democrats. Only liberals that are nothing but wolves in sheep's clothing.

I am originally from Alpena and we vacation in Indian River - lots of conservatives up there.  Disappointed in such a small turnout for this town hall.  Bart Stupid talks out of both sides of his mouth.  He was on WJR with Beckman talking about how he has really pi*&ed off Nancy Pelosi with his stand on public funded abortion.  He talks a good game but will suck face with Nancy at the final vote because they will load him up with pork and promises for cash strapped Michigan.  He does not vote his principals he votes to line his pockets - always has, always will.

I"m glad that abortion is part of this bill.  The easiest way to flip this nation majority pro-life and keep it there is for these folks that "don't want to tell other people how to live" to realize that they'd have to pay for that choice.  And it gives us one more opportunity to kill the bill.

If the thing somehow passes, it'll give us a huge hammer to beat on the Dems and get it "unpassed" in 2011.

At least I hope.  If it were to become law and actually stay there, well that would be horrifying.
