It's good to have friends in high places.

Our beloved Nick pulled off a coup for my cousin and me earlier today.  Like many of you, we tried  to get tickets to tonight's McCain/Palin Town Hall event in Grand Rapids.  I had given up hope.  No one we knew who had "connections" could help us out.  Well, no one except the Nick-ster.

Clearly this man has pull in local GOP politics.  Not only did Nick get KCuz and me into this event, he got us press passes.  Woo hoo!!

For a play by play of our live coverage of this the McCain/Palin event, go to www.RightCuz.com

But I'd like to share just a few thoughts about my experience tonight.  First off, as bloggers, it's easy to have an inferiority complex.  We were rubbing shoulders with the likes of Carl Cameron of Fox News for goodness sakes!!  I saw a press person who was a dead ringer for Matt Drudge.  He was even wearing one of those goofy hats Matt favors so much.  So, I walked up to him and asked if he was the infamous Drudge.  He wasn't.  That was awkward.  Oh well, I'm sure he gets that all the time.  Let's move on...quickly!

The parasites, um, sorry, the press was cordoned off to the back of the room.  I had a nice camera with me but it did not have a telephoto lens to get close ups from that far back.

About 3 minutes before the candidates took the stage, I noticed about a dozen press photographers making there way up there.  Exhibiting no fear, I tagged along.  What's the worst thing that could happen?

I made it all the way up to the edge of the stage area and was within 15 feet or so of Governor Palin.  I snapped as many photos as I could knowing I'd get hauled out of there at any moment.

Now, if you know me, you would know that I am not a sexist. I'm just not.  But I must tell you that Mrs. Palin is even more striking in person.  And this is one impressive dame.  Think about it.  Just 3 weeks or so ago, she was living the quiet life of a popular governor of a far away state.  Today, everyone knows her name.  She has been raked over the coals.  She and her family have been dragged through the mud.  And today we learn that those b*stards hacked into her personal email account and displayed very personal family info (including her daughter's cell phone number) on a website for all to see.

Given all this plus so much more yet to come, Governor Palin is poised, graceful, confident, intelligent and ready to become Vice President of the United States.

Oh, by the way, John looked great too.  Actually he really did.  I've read he has an extra kick in his step when he's on the stump with Sarah and it's obviously true.  The two of them are terrific together.  They make a powerful team.

After about 15 minutes of getting lots of great photos, I did receive that inevitable tap on the shoulder asking me to move back to my press box area.  I pouted a bit but quickly realized that wouldn't work.  So I flashed a smirk and headed back to my restricted area.

This is one of those events that stays with you for a very long time.  We are forever in your debt, Nick.  Thanks for making tonight possible.
