What World is GR Mayor Living In?

Grand Rapids Mayor, George Heartwell, is quoted by WOOD TV 8 as saying, "I am hearing from more citizens today than I ever have in the past, saying `Mr. Mayor, isn't it time that you raised taxes?'"

Really?  People in Grand Rapids are walking up to the mayor pleading to have even more of their hard-earned income confiscated by government.  Yep.  I can see that happening (NOT!).

This is the same mayor who effectively undermined the authority of the newly appointed Chief of Police by screaming racism since the City Manager didn't pick the candidate of color for the job.

Increasingly, the mayor of the state's second largest city is displaying signs of poor judgment and a disconnect with the real world.

    Tell 'em, "Why wait?"

Since the high and mighty mucky-mucks feels that not enough money is coming into the city's coffers, suggest that they institute a "Tax Me More Fund" to address this "shortfall".

Why, just look at what a swell job this is doing here.

    Eliminate Local Governments (none / 0) (#6)
by Victor Laszlo on Sat Mar 22, 2008 at 04:14:31 PM EST
I would rather see all township, village, and city governments eliminated permanently and all local government services consolidated at the county government level.  The county government would then become the only local government body below the state legislature.  If one crunches the numbers, just by eliminating all Township officials (not even employees) alone would save the state taxpayers $100 Million per year.  The foregoing number would grow if Villages and Cities were added to the elimination of Township governments.

Huge groups of people are forming and asking that their taxes be raised for a better quality of life.  What is wrong with that? What is wrong with helping people? Jesus would help people! I am so sick of the right acting like they are so religious but they don't want to help anyone. Not everyone was born or raised in ideal positions to succeed in life and may need a little help here and there. Republicans will go to hell if they refuse to help people and accept people for who they are.
