According to an editorial in today's Muskegon Chronicle, when Republicans controlled the legislature, they reduced the size of state government to the point it (government) could be dragged into the bathroom and drowned in the bathtub!
Here is a selection from their editorial: "The threat comes from Leon Drolet, presently the Grand Poobah of this neoconservative movement. He is a former GOP state representative who served when Republicans held sway over the Legislature and very nearly had their way with the state budget in the bathtub."

But to call me a neocon, that hurts! What is true is that for two years (fiscal years 2005 and 2006) House Republicans, under former Speaker Craig DeRoche, refused to pass a budget that increased spending beyond the rate of inflation. This mild restraint is deemed by the folks at the Muskegon Chronicle as killing the state government. To liberals and tax-eaters, even mild spending restraint is as painful as death! Like vampires, they need more and more blood - and fiscal restraint is like being exposed to the sun! Prior too fiscal year 2005, Republicans also increased spending well above the rate of inflation. There is just twenty five more days until the legislature is required to produce a balanced budget.
