The Jackson Citizen Patriot doesn't post online until around noon, so after my morning visit to the Capitol I ducked into Beaners for a break.

It seems my hometown paper has cornered Rep. Griffin (D-Jackson) and my Rep. Simpson (D-Liberty Twp) as to their refusal to be counted with their party.

Simpson, D-Liberty Township, said he and Griffin are in a position to hold a "balance of power" and shape the outcome of the $1.7 billion budget crisis, a rare position for freshmen lawmakers.
"Having the courage and conviction to stay off the board has been really tough," Simpson said. "Both sides are upset with Martin and I."
Simpson added: "I'm personally against a tax increase."

Would someone please check the air quality in the House? I believe a toxic substance has leaked into the building, rendering some representatives nonsensical.

But as for Griffin...I guess the CitPat didn't have him cornered. He's just plain out cold.

Efforts to reach Griffin, D-Jackson, were unsuccessful.

The CitPat goes on:

House Democrats want to get Republicans to vote for the tax increase so Griffin and Simpson can be off the hook, said Leon Drolet, executive director of the Michigan Taxpayers Alliance.
"They want Simpson and Griffin to be able to vote 'no,'" said Drolet, whose group is targeting the Jackson County lawmakers for a recall if they vote for a tax increase.
Simpson dismisses these "theories."
"This isn't about re-election," said Simpson, D-Liberty Township.
