Who are the NERD fund donors Mr Snyder?

    Raise the curtain.

I've been thinking about the looming budget deadline and the "struggle" in Lansing to reach an agreement.

I'm willing to bet there is no struggle.  You can't struggle with someone who refuses to engage, and the Governor has made it clear that she will not engage unless she gets a "revenue enhancement", aka TAX INCREASE.

She's hedging- hoping that if she just sits there, with her arms folded, pouting like a recalcitrant child, she'll either get her way and get a tax hike, or she won't and the sky will fall on June 1.  People will wail and beat their breasts and collapse in the street. When the MEA howls about school cuts, she can try to blame it on the Legislature and their failure to act.  More specifically, she'll try to blame it on the Republicans and their so-called refusal to negotiate (which is Jennifer-speak for "capitulate").

So what will happen June 1, when the horrific cuts happen?  The exact same thing that happened on January 1, 2000.  NOTHING.  Just like the runup to Y2K, we've been bombarded with horror stories of what "might" happen. Remember? All computers will stop functioning- we'll be living in the 1800's with no electricity or food and we'll all starve. Famine! Pestilence! The End of the World! PEOPLE WILL DIE!

Yes, the MEA will howl.  Teachers will get laid off.  Some welfare recipients may lose some health care benefits, or have to pay more for them.  Join the club.  (Those of us who are older than dirt will remember when no one had health insurance). People will go on with their lives, looking for jobs or looking for a way to get out of this state.  What the Governor has chosen to ignore (kinda like those budget overruns last year)is that her popularity rating is below that of the Democrat's version of Methusela, President Bush.  An overwhelming number of Michiganders (or should I say WEchiganders) oppose a tax hike.  On June 1, the working stiffs in this state will say:  "So what.  I've had my income cut.  I've had to dial back my spending and live within my means. It is time for the state to do the same."   People won't die.  Schools won't implode.  The poor won't starve. If there is no budget agreement this weekend, nothing will happen June 1.  June 8th? Now that is a different story.
