BREAKING: Granholm attempting to censor HER OWN RADIO INTERVIEW

Update [2007-10-4 11:13:10 by Nick]:So what was all the fuss about? Frank asked the Governor if she had a credibility problem since she'd promised voters not to raise taxes on services.

She responded that she'd never made that pledge.

He told her that there was a clip of her saying precisely that during her second televised debate last fall with Dick DeVos. She claimed to have reviewed the clip and was quite certain that she never made that pledge. So Frank played the following clip:

Her response: "That was the the... and... I was responding to the sales tax."

Frank: "He pretty clearly said a tax on services."

Granholm: "Yeah, I know he did, but be clear, I have not been opposed to spreading the sales tax on services."

    ...

Frank: "What we heard as residents was you're not going to raise our taxes when we voted for you (nervous laughter)."

Granholm: "Frank, you know, the circumstances are, that I was not going to slash public education or health care either."

Wow. An admission that she lied!

Frank then took her to task on her pledge that there would be no more no-bid contracts and her insistance that her $116+ million contract to one of her high-dollar campaign donors was OK even though it was a no-bid contract.

Her response? It was Engler's fault.

She's moving forward on a $116+ million construction project in 2007, five years after Engler left office, but it's HIS FAULT?!

Said Frank: John Engler cut a deal with Joel Ferguson, your campaign contributor on this property that's on a flood plain with no parking and no helipad?

    Granholm: Exactly right. Exactly right.

    Frank: (Laughter)

What? No! Not right! Show me the signed contracts from 2002 or earlier, Madame Governor! Show me the appropriations bills making the provisions from 2002 or earlier, Madame Governor! They don't exist! How can this woman say that with a straight face? I think Juli put it best a few weeks ago:

After listening to that performance I'd have called Liz Boyd and started making threats too. What an embarrassment.

Update [2007-10-4 10:53:53 by Nick]:Click HERE to listen to the complete interview with the Governor!

Update [2007-10-4 10:20:45 by Nick]:Frank's decided to play the interview. Tune into WJR or check them out on the web now to hear it live and we'll see what all the fuss is about.

Interesting morning radio on Detroit's blowtorch WJR 760.

Turns out Governor Granholm recorded an interview with Frank Beckmann earlier this morning and he was going to broadcast it today.  Well, she didn't like the way the taping went and contacted Frank asking him to hold the tape, demanding he not broadcast it.  And it looks like her request came with "implications."  It's been implied that if he doesn't hold the tape the Governor will refuse to make another appearance on his program ever again.

Frank Beckmann asks tough questions and doesn't take a lot of BS but he's absolutely 100% a gentleman.  He's agreed to the Governor's demands to this point and is holding the tape.  Not out of fear but because she asked.

Callers are beseiging the station right now demanding he play it, insisting that the Governor works for taxpayers and has a responsibility to answer tough questions.  That she can't just squash an interview that didn't go the way she wanted it to go.

And they're right.  I hope Mr. Beckmann decides to let the Governor's words speak for themselves.  He should play the interview uncut and unabridged.

More than that, the Governor should apologize to Mr. Beckmann, to WJR and to every resident of the state of Michigan for her attempts to censor the free press and for making implications (read: threats) for failure to comply.

You can listen live to WJR HERE.

For the love of god i hope people are listening to this. This is absolutely unbelievable.
No wonder she didn't want the interview to be played.
I would have offered Beckman a cabinet postition not to play that.

    Recall her ass right now

Is their anyway to forward this to all the big media outlets?  Doubt they would play it, but I heard most of the interview this morning.  How does the Dem's say she is an effective leader when she cries like a school girl in kindergarden until she gets her way?

after Liz Boyd got done trying to spin Granholm's lies and admissions of lies into something other than lies and admissions of lies.

He said, basically, 'they finally had something (her performance) they couldn't blame on John Engler or President Bush so now they're trying to blame it on me because I asked tough questions.'

    Engler's Deal (none / 0) (#11)
by NoviDemocrat on Thu Oct 04, 2007 at 02:12:12 PM EST
Why is anyone denying that Engler put this proposal together?

Triangle plan could get OK on Monday
    Lansing State Journal
    December 28, 2002
    Author: MacDonald ChristineStaff

"A proposed state office building in downtown Lansing is expected to go before a state board for last-minute approval on Monday.

Time appeared to be running out for the Michigan State Police and Department of Military and Veterans Affairs joint headquarters to be approved this year.

But officials said Friday the proposal has made it on the seven-member State Administrative Board's agenda for its meeting Monday.

The $100 million, 405,000- square-foot building would be built and leased to the state by local developers Gary Granger and Joel Ferguson. The administrative board - which includes Gov. John Engler and Attorney General and Gov.-elect Jennifer Granholm - needs to approve the lease.

"We have been working on this for a while," said Bridget Medina of the Department of Management and Budget. "We are not rushing it through."

Engler's administration has shortened the proposed lease from 25 years to 17 years and reduced the building's size by 85,000 square feet.

By shortening the lease, the state will save at least $50 million, which doesn't include property tax savings, officials said."

That doesn't get Granholm off the hook for carrying this forward but if you're going to claim that Granholm is making some kind of deal for Ferguson, the same applies to Engler.

    So? (none / 0) (#12)
by Nick on Thu Oct 04, 2007 at 02:22:06 PM EST
Did they sign contracts and move the appropriations?

We were certainly in better financial shape in 2002 than we are now, too.

There were discussions and movement years ago.  No one is arguing that.  But the decision to move forward was made in 2007 by Jennifer Granholm and the legislature.

And even after finding out what a mess the state was in financially the governor failed to put an end to the project, and refuses to put an end to it TO THIS DAY even though she could use her bully pulpit and a couple quick press releases to yank the approps she just encouraged to go through.

I was listening to the interview as it was on the radio this morning.  It was nauseating.  The woman was lying and lying and lying while sweetly proclaiming it was the truth.
Honestly, what do you do with a pathelogical liar?
In Michigan we just shrug our shoulders and call them Governor.

If Governor Granholm was the CEO and Michigan was a publicly traded corporation, she would be indicted and convicted for securities fraud for intentionally making false statements and would be found liable to shareholders for numerous breaches of fiduciary duties.  It's time to recall this sorry excuse for a Governor and make her a public and national example to a politician who so blatantly lies and deceives her fellow citizens.

    please answer this.
NoviDem, who irritates me to no end, posted a link to a liberal website that states the Beckman used a doctored clip.
I heard the interview.  I do not think the clip in the Beckman interview was at all what is referenced on the lib website.
In fact, I heard the governor say to Beckman that she was not talking about the income tax, she was talking about the service tax.
After watching Rush get smeared and then smeared again on PWSmith's show by Levin for something Rush never said, I really would like to know where the truth is.

Beckman didn't play the very beginning of the clip , which removed even more of the context. But it's clear it's the clip that Nick posted here where the Governor's full response is edited out.

Granholm started out wanting to raise taxes and ended up raising taxes.

can anyone watch that clip and say that the Governor was taken out of context.

I did not "edit" anything.  I took the entire question and posted it with her answer.  No cuts.  No edits.  No mish-mash.  Straight video.

Her little explanation of why she said "no, I would not" doesn't change a THING about her answer to the question.

Shoot the messenger if you will (it's what you people are good at) but the Governor's words are the governor's words and even if you were to post the ENTIRE DEBATE it wouldn't change the context of that question or that answer.

She was asked if she would consider raising the sales tax or taxing services.  She said "No, I would not."  But by all means, keep parsing and defending.

.. like Aunt Jen-jen, there are those who can't see the forest for the trees. Move slowly Novi, you could get hurt moving around with your eyes closed like that.
I thought the earlier portion, about the census data was a real eye opener.

I don't think it's very difficult to comprehend that we're moving up the list from 8th highest in total taxes if we're increasing taxes.
That Granholm reaction to Frank's question speaks volumes.
If we're losing people and increasing taxes the per capita 18 is going to be something else that got "blowed away".

I wouldn't be surprised if Madame Granholm tries to retaliate against WJR like her good buddy Vladimir Putin over in Moscow is so good at doing.
