    In Kentwood . . . (none / 0) (#6)
by Kevin Rex Heine on Tue Aug 06, 2013 at 11:14:05 PM EST
. . . the only things we had on the ballot today were the City Mayor Primary and the Ward 1 City Commissioner Primary.  However, one of the behind-the-scenes stories is that Kentwood is one of the ten municipal primaries today that MIGOP used as an opportunity to stress-test an improved Election Day Operations platform ("improved" meaning better than Project ORCA), so Kent GOP took advantage of an excuse to train some poll challengers.

The test went well overall, as far as I can tell, but I'll learn more when the operation is debriefed later this week.  In neither primary did anyone draw >50% of the total votes cast, so both races proceed to a general runoff on November 5th.   A quick numerical analysis shows a few interesting tidbits:

    • In each race, both the front-runner and the runner-up live in the same precinct.

    • The only primary candidates to win their home precincts were the runners-up.
