. . . just when I was starting to like Bill Schuette, he goes and sends out an e-mail like this:

I'm proud to support Mitt Romney for President

    Dear friends,

As you may know, I am enthusiastically supporting Mitt Romney to be our next President of the United States of America. Mitt asked me to serve as the Chairman of his campaign in Michigan, and I have agreed.

The purpose of this e-mail is to express two very important thoughts: First, why I think Mitt Romney will make a great President; Secondly, I want to share with you a policy area where Mitt and I disagree.

JOBS. Michigan needs jobs. America needs jobs. And we're not getting them from the Obama Administration. Instead, we're getting lots of rhetoric. The unemployment rate in Michigan remains in double digits. If underemployment is counted with unemployment, then more than one of every five Michigan citizens is out of work, underemployed or has given up looking for work. Mitt Romney is a job creator. He's made payroll. That's exactly what we need in the White House.

TAXES. I served in Congress with President Ronald Reagan. As President Reagan used to say, if you want less of something, tax it. No wonder we have fewer jobs - Obama has plans to raise taxes on job creators, on businesses, and to force every American to pay for health insurance. Mitt Romney understands that cutting taxes spurs economic development and job growth. After all, it's your hard-earned money. You should keep more of it.

SPENDING. America's debt and deficit are at an all-time high - and climbing! Mitt Romney has pledged to place a hard cap on federal spending. Mitt supports a balanced budget for the federal government, and a presidential veto to get rid of wasteful congressional spending and earmarks.

NATIONAL SECURITY. Nothing is more important than the safety of American citizens and the security of our country. That means standing by your allies, like Israel, not publicly attacking them or "throwing them under the bus." As President, Mitt Romney will not apologize for exercising American leadership.

OBAMACARE. I oppose ObamaCare. As Attorney General, I have authorized a lawsuit to overturn ObamaCare in court. Governor Romney and I agree that ObamaCare must be repealed. I shared with Mitt my opposition to federal and state healthcare mandates. Also, I expressed my opposition to a Massachusetts approach, a policy area where Mitt and I disagree. I stated that health care decisions must be driven by market forces and be fueled by consumer choices. I am a 10th Amendment conservative. I will continue to help lead the fight against ObamaCare tooth and nail.

VALUES. Mitt Romney, like his father, former Michigan Governor George Romney, is a strong believer in service and volunteerism. He is Pro-Life, and opposes all federal funding of abortion. Mitt supports a constitutional amendment to protect traditional marriage. He stands firm on our Second Amendment freedoms. I trust Mitt Romney's values far more than I trust Barack Obama's values.

11th COMMANDMENT. President Reagan's famous 11th Commandment is "Thou shalt not speak ill of any fellow Republican." We should all adopt and apply this approach in the months ahead. Reagan was known for his optimism and positive approach to campaigns and elections. That's the same spirit embraced by Mitt Romney. This primary election should be a contest of ideas, not personalities. We should nominate the strongest Republican, the leader who stands the very best chance of defeating Barack Obama and turning this great country around.

BOTTOM LINE. President Obama is right about one thing: we must make a change. I believe change starts at the top. America needs a new President, and Michigan, more than any other state, needs jobs. There are better days ahead for America and there are better days ahead for Michigan. Mitt Romney is a bold leader with solid, conservative credentials. He has my strong support. That is why I ask you to join with me and help elect Mitt Romney to be the next President of the United States. Let's get to work!

    Sincerely,

    Bill Schuette
    Attorney General

And now my WTF head-scratching begins.
