    Yes, blame a well defined "them" - pols (none / 0) (#5)

"Populism is a weak foundation to build any political movement on - (it's) based on blaming some ill-defined "them" for our problems"

Absolutely. The blame should instead be attached to a very well defined "them," one that has volunteered for being held to account. I refer to the political careerists who constitute our state and nation's political class, of course.

When some rent-seeking film producer or "green-energy" scammer seeks a subsidy from government, that's human nature operating within the incentive stucture created by the political class. Heck, in most cases it's just business managers being fiduciarily responsible to their shareholders.

So blame the pols who created that rotten incentive structure - whether it be Barney Frank who helped create the incentives for banks to make bad loans, or Michigan Republicans who helped create the film and "green energy" subsidies.

Going after the careerist pols is ethical and proper. Going after the rent-seekers amounts to trying to pretend-away human nature. It's worse than a dead end politically, it's fundamentally foolish.
