    So answer me this, then . . . (none / 0) (#30)

. . . either of you; exactly what are the "loopholes" or "workarounds" of a retail sales tax?  Come on, Jason, you're a business owner, surely you know at least one.

If either or you (or any other regular on this site, for that matter) are looking for an excuse to go back to sitting on your ass and watching the republic pass you by, then do not look here.  Freedom and Liberty are not spectator sports.  If you want to take the American Republic back and preserve it for your children and grandchildren, then you've got to get your butt out of the bleachers, get on the damn field, and freaking stay there!

"Freedom and liberty are fragile things, and never more than a generation from extinction.  They're not ours by inheritance, and we didn't pass them on to our children in the bloodstream.  They must be fought for, protected, and handed on for each generation to do the same, or one day we'll spend our sunset years telling our children and grandchildren what it was once like in America back in the day when men and women were free.  Those who have known freedom and lost it have never known it again, for it comes only once to a people." (Ronald Wilson Reagan)

If you expect perfection from a system designed by human hands, then you expect that which human hands are inherently incapable of providing.  The sinful corruption that Eve and Adam introduced into this world guaranteed that.  We have done the best that we can with this proposal, but a critical part of this - once implemented - requires vigilance on the part of those Michiganders who love Liberty and Freedom too much to allow it to be eroded by socialist subversion.

And make no mistake, the Socialists in our government will be looking for every mechanism under the sun to undermine this.  They are well aware of how badly they lose when MFTP becomes law.  Oh, they'll be quiet for a little while, but as soon as they think you've got your guard down . . . they'll be back.

According to Abraham Lincoln, "While the people retain their virtue and their vigilance, no administration by any extreme of wickedness or folly can seriously injure the government in the short space of four years."  And that is very true.  The key point here is that the people must remain vigilant against the onslaughts that are intended to destroy the republic.

Socialists, as well as others who desire America's permanent destruction, know that the constitiution cannot be directly overthrown.  So they will, as they do now, "innovate" upon the core constitutional principles that define our republic.  And under specious pretexts they insert these alterations in such a manner as to permanently drain the energy from our free-enterprise system, with the ultimate goal of permanently undermining that which cannot be directly destroyed.

Nor are they stupid about this.  They are well aware that taking down the entire federal system at once is a task doomed to failure.  But they know that picking off the states one-at-a-time will ultimately achieve their end . . . and so they are patient.  President Obama himself said that implementing Universal Healthcare may require as much as ten years; so what makes you think he's that worried about ultimately winning now?

But what those who wish to destroy us, from either within or without, fear are the "sheepdogs" within the citizenry.  We sheepdogs know how to tell a wolf from a sheep, and consider it our sacred responsibility to take down any wolf who comes knocking on our nation's door . . . including those already here.

The FairTax Initiative flushes the wolves already inside out into the open, which is why they hate it so.

So my question to you is this:  Sheep or sheepdog?
