Things are starting to happen in the primary cycle. There are some of you who have felt that the advertising done by the Cox campaign regarding the TARP was too tough, or perhaps distasteful. The results are in, and the ads, as well as a the plan advertised by Cox for Michigan's future seem to have moved public opinion in his favor.
The Mike Cox 2010 campaign today released the results of a new poll conducted by Public Opinion Strategies showing Mike Cox leading the race for governor. According to Public Opinion Strategies pollster Neil Newhouse:
"After only two weeks of out-state advertising, Cox has essentially erased Pete Hoekstra's once commanding 13-point lead and reshaped this race," The poll of 400 likely GOP primary voters finds Mike Cox in first place with 21 percent of the vote, Pete Hoekstra tied in first at 21 percent, Rick Snyder at 18 percent, Mike Bouchard at 10 percent and Tom George at 2 percent. The poll was conducted May 25-27 with a margin of error of +/-4.9%. (650 words in story) Full Story By JGillman, Section News
Welcome to the Michigan gubernatorial Speedway, where the twists and turns can be both deadly or maybe put you ahead. The track has changed a little, and too many left turns will send you off road.
The official, yet unofficial record shows filing for the Michigan GOP nod at governor as of 4PM today to be:

A couple of days ago, Things started happening that are of grave concern to Michigan and our country. The health care "reform" act was passed with the help of all of Michigan Democrat congressmen, and the solutions from Michigan's prospective governors started to appear. News reports and releases have given us a little insight to where these Republican candidates stand.
Mike Cox has filed a lawsuit coinciding with other state's attorneys general, citing the unconstitutionality of the new federal law. Pete Hoekstra as a member of Congress has been in the front line battle against the package, and has referred to the AG's plan in what could be described as a supportive stance. Mike Bouchard has said Cox's effort is a "flawed approach." suggesting that Michigan's better option would be to withhold money going to the federal government. And Rick Snyder and Tom George remain conspicuously quiet. (6 comments, 952 words in story) Full Story By apackof2, Section News

This is from my blog at Some Other Viewpoint
Mr. Peterson is correct in pointing out the merits of checks and balances. His support of pols pay (above national average for Bachelor degrees), benefits (lifetime after being elected one term), and pensions (ever heard of a 401K?) is disturbing. He has a sense of entitlment that is not in line with core Republican values. (23 comments, 450 words in story) Full Story By msurepublican, Section News
I've been following the recent conversation here about the straw poll on Mackinac Island I'm not sure I understand how people can be upset about Rick Snyder bringing volunteers to the island. I'm a MSU Republican who heard from several campaigns that were trying to recruit me to come to the island and offered to pay for my lodging and other expenses in exchange for voting for them. A friend of mine sent me exactly what Cox's campaign was going to pay for which you can clearly see here. I also picked up this letter from Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land asking for contributions to a fund that was paying for volunteers to go up to the island. I'm sure that voting for Bouchard was a part of their requirements. So it's clear that Rick wasn't the only candidate paying for volunteers to attend.
And as to the video, the person who was interviewed actually did an interview with Michigan Public Radio Network that explained exactly why he was supporting Rick - because of his background in business - on the island and he posted this response.
By the way, It'll be interesting to see if Right Michigan moves something that shows Cox and Bouchard were trying to buy the poll too to the front page or if they're only trying to go after Rick's campaign. From my perspective, Rick's campaign did nothing differently than the other campaigns other than recruit more supporters and run a more effective operation.
Read these materials from the other campaigns, and decide for yourself if the pots are calling the kettle black.
