  • Your New Scoop Site

    Welcome to Scoop!

To help you figure things out, there is a Scoop Admin Guide which can hopefully answer most of your questions.

    Some tips:

    • Most of the layout is changed in "Blocks", found in the admin tools menu
    • Features can be turned on and off, and configured, in "Site Controls" in the admin tools menu
    • Stories have an "edit" link right beside the "Full Story" link on an index page, and right beside the "Post a Comment" link on the full story page. They can also be edited by clicking the story title in the "Story List" admin tool
    • Boxes are what allow you to write new features for Scoop; they require a knowledge of the perl programming language to work with effectively, although you can often make small changes without knowing much perl. If you would like a feature added but cannot program it yourself, ScoopHost does custom Scoop programming as one of its services.
    • If you aren't sure where to look for a particular feature or piece of display, try the "Search Admin Tools" link in the admin tools menu.

Any of you been keeping an eye on some of the sneaky tax/fee hikes happening in Lansing?

HB 4665: Eileen Kowall-r  - to extend the "temporary" 71.4% tipping fee hike from 2011 = PASSED by House MI-GOP (Thank you for your lone Republican NO vote, Rep. Nesbitt)

HB 4668: Jon Bumstead-r  - Hunting and Fishing tax hike... 106.6% increase for resident deer license, and basic fishing license 73.3% increase = unanimously PASSED by House MI-GOP

HB 4669: Jon Bumstead-r  - annual ORV sticker 61.5% tax hike, and if wanting to use state trails, make it a 123% tax hike = unanimously PASSED by House MI-GOP

Seriously, what the Hell is the point of voting Republican?  Just so one can say they didn't vote Democrat?  That's real intelligent.  I'm tellin' ya, the Republican Majority in Lansing, are Professional Grade Bandits.  No bullsh!t.

    The Whos Who Of Schizophrenia

I am not going to get out of the fight, but damn, I sure have felt like it recently.

The Democrat party has been lost for some time to the progressive freak show that carries a disconnect about its intent and actions.  While griping about money in elections by big corporations, it calls out for bigger government that attracts such mechanisms.  While it decries the high cost of insurance and medical care, it uses the tools of government to discourage entry into the field of medicine, thus raising the cost.  While promising no mouth goes unfed, it has provided a trough that keeps the hands associated with those mouths idle and unproductive so they cannot feed themselves. Constantly the 'civil rights' violations, through our social compacts, are heralded as wrong, yet murdering of those who can least defend themselves is their rallying action. And at the same time that its activists want us out of their bedrooms, they put their genitalia in our faces and into our school programming.

    Its a bizarro world.

Its a strange place and time, and I don't recognize my country or state any longer.  When the lies become the truth, and the truth is decried as meaningless, and a (very unhealthy)gun is put to our heads, so that someone who has made poor choices with regard to their own health care might be made better.

But it didn't hurt so much until the last 2 decades, and the damage was somewhat limited until the Republicans allowed it to become mainstream.

    More below the fold ~

McMillin & JCAR Policing The Bureacracy

A legislative update by speaker Bolger highlighted some action happening in Lansing to clean up unaccountable pseudo-legislative action.

Michigan State Representative Tom McMillin, the 2013 chair, joined by State Senators John Pappageorge, (Alternate Chair) Arlan Meekhof, Jim Marleau, Tupac Hunter, Bert Johnson Representatives Jim Stamas, Amanda Price, Harvey Santana, & Douglas Geiss make up the JCAR (Joint Committee on Administrative Rules).  Bolger reports in his email blast:

"The Joint Committee on Administrative Rules (JCAR) has been especially active this session, monitoring, questioning, and confronting red tape that goes beyond what is written into law. More than 1,000 administrative rules have already been reviewed, leading to several JCAR actions that have produced concrete results. These actions include the rescission of a proposed sales tax rule that exceeded statutory authority and elimination of a Department of Education policy prohibiting 16- and 17 year-old students from being lifeguards. The MDE policy was not derived from any particular official rule or statutory authority - it was simply a policy created by bureaucrats. We are taking a more proactive approach to using JCAR this session as a means of reviewing and investigating administrative rules that are often just getting in the way of Michiganders living their lives."
    Far freaking out.

We should be hoping for a complete report soon?

As this is a great way to assure that our Michigan legislative action is properly implemented, it might also be a great lesson we can pass along to the representatives we send to DC.  Seriously, its a good time to pass along a great idea.

Imagine the effect of eliminating non-legislated 'law' coming out of Washington.

RightMichigan Exclusive: An Interview with Representative Jase Bolger (R-Marshall)

We talk so often here about the things that are going wrong in Lansing and what the tax-and-spenders are up to that I think it's important to check in with the good guys from time to time to get their take on the issues facing taxpayers and the legislature today.

The GOP House minority continues to sponsor and introduce legislation, to work behind the scenes and to try to figure out some sort of positive solution to this tax-hike / budget mess.

We rarely hear about that in the MSM.

Being a member of a legislative minority makes it tough to garner headlines. But they're working hard and they're trying to make a difference.

This week I spoke with Calhoun County freshman Republican Representative Jase Bolger.

    Interview after the break...
