Jen Kuznicki Hits it on the head.

In a piece that starts with discussion of Rush Limbaugh's out-reach efforts to the low infomation community, Jen properly describes 'moderates' for what they are:

"Conservatives catch flak for being confrontational, judgmental, and overly critical of members of their own party. But what do moderates do? They go out of their way to be non-confrontational, non-judgmental, and only critical of conservative members of their party. They have "friends on the other side of the aisle" instead of opposition. They harp on tone and finesse while the nation is going down, and they deny that is even happening. They are witnessing the demise of their nation, but aren't too damn upset about it, because they don't know it's happening."
"Only critical of conservatives .." Indeed.

    Worth reading the rest.

And right on cue (none / 0) (#1)

Bob Dole tells the rest of us today that "compromise is not a dirty word."

Bob Dole deserves his picture next to the political definition of moderate Republican.  A man who helped navigate this nation, through negotiated compromise after negotiated compromise, into a country perched on the precipice of total financial collapse.

True to Jen's words, Dole laments that his party is

"moving further and further to the right."

"We need to build an inclusive party, not an exclusive party. We need to broaden the base with Latinos and blacks and young people -- almost every group. We're losing ground."

Rather than try and educate a challenged public on economics and law he would just shift the principles of his party so that it would be more inclusive.

Rather than teach principles he chooses to teach retreat.  And here we are balancing on the edge.
