Gary Peters is Part of Washington's Spending ProblemBy BillMurphy, Section News
Senator Harry Reid and Co-Leader Chuck Schumer are considering a vote on legislation to blindly increase the federal debt limit without any spending reforms or cuts to begin to alleviate the massive debt burden Washington has created. Gary Peters has been a big spender throughout his time in Washington. In fact, when Gary Peters was sworn into office in 2009, the national debt was $10.6 trillion. Today our debt is an eye-popping $16.7 trillion.
In 2006, then Senator Obama voted against raising the debt ceiling when our national debt was only $8.3 trillion as opposed to the $16.7 trillion it is today. At the time, Obama said, "Increasing America's debt weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that 'the buck stops here.' Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and a failure of leadership."
Our national debt has skyrocketed during Gary Peters' time in Washington. His only answer has been to spend even more taxpayer money. According to a new CBS poll, fully three-quarters of Americans are opposed to raising the debt limit without conditions. "Gary Peters is part of the problem in Washington, not part of the solution," said NRSC Press Secretary Brook Hougesen. "During his four years in Washington, Gary Peters has maxed out the government credit card and handed the tab to our children and grandchildren. Michiganders deserve honest leaders who will work to solve problems, instead Gary Peters has blindly run up our tab without any intention of ever paying the bill."
