    Clark Durant's Break Out Week

Clark Durant has been steadily gathering momentum over the last few months with big endorsements, television ads, successful fundraising, and meeting with citizens across Michigan.  All of that effort culminated with an explosive flurry of events this week.  It should be considered the "break out" week for Durant.  It was a week where he was no longer ignored by his primary opponent Pete Hoekstra and he had certainly garnered the attention of the Michigan Democrats.  It was a week of triumph and attack.  Here is a brief run down in case you missed it.

Durant secured the huge endorsement of Senator Rand Paul.  In his endorsement statement, Senator Paul said, "Clark is being hammered by establishment career politicians, on both sides of the aisle, because he is surging and is well-positioned to pull off an upset win the primary AND general elections."

Durant also secured the endorsement of former Senator Fred Thompson.   When Senator Thompson traveled to Michigan this week to show his support for Durant he said, "He's an unusual candidate. I think he could be a leader in the United States Senate from day one."   Again, this is a huge endorsement.

There were also a new television ad from the Durant campaign that started airing which questioned Hoekstra's voting record during his eighteen year tenure in the House of Representatives calling him out on his votes for the Wall Street Bailout, raising the debt ceiling numerous times, and wasteful earmarks.

Of course with all of this momentum the attacks came as well.  A new pro Durant "super" PAC called Prosperity for Michigan began running ads which scathingly questioned Pete Hokestra's voting record while he was a member of Congress.  The ads angered the Heokstra campaign to the point of them filing an FEC complaint on a filing technicality.  Ironically, Hoekstra was called out on a similar FEC issue by the Michigan Democrats early in the campaign.

Speaking of the Democrats, Mark Brewer launched a broad side attack against Durant at the same time as Hoekstra.  They called into question Durant's non-profit work with Detroit children and also attacked his daughter in the process.  The Democrats have gone so far as to create a slick website attacking Durant.  This obviously shows that they view the Durant campaign as a serious threat to Debbie Stabenow and they are doing everything they can to prevent him from winning the primary.  Now the Hoekstra campaign has joined forces with Mark Brewer and the Democrats in the non-profit attack while ducking the call for a debate.

So what does all this mean?  It means that Clark Durant has gained serious momentum and is positioned to take back Stabenow's Senate seat for fiscal conservatism and common sense.  It is pretty simple, you don't get attacked like Durant is getting attacked if you are not a threat.  You don't devote time and resources to attack a candidate who has little or no chance of winning an election.   The Democrats are scared because they know Durant can win.  Hoekstra is scared because he knows Durant can win.  That is why they are both attacking him.  This validates the Durant candidacy as a strong contender.

We are poised to take back a Senate seat that the Democrats have held for over a decade.  We can send a message to Washington that will resonate loud and clear.  A message of fiscal responsibility, social values, liberty, and common sense. Now is the time to reject the Washington establishment that got us into this enormous mess we are now facing.

Fred Thompson is not.  Why Clark's surrogates think it's smart to promote his growing association with the National Popular Vote agenda folk (Anuzis, his PAC, and now Thompson) is beyond my imagination.  Perhaps Rand just isn't privy of that little detail.  TEA partier folk sure as hell are though.

An Al Gore presidency would've done a helluva lot more damage than a TARP vote could ever imagine.

Chad, I wish you well with that.

    But, Anyone but Stabenow!

As with Palin, Limbaugh, etc.- they lash out at those they most fear the effects of. With less than two weeks left before the election, it's a prime opportunity to help push the Durant campaign ahead of Hoekstra.
(Except for Mr. Scales, who for reasons proceeding from his own mental state, would prefer to see Durant lose.)

...you only really begin to draw flak when you are nearing your target.

Signs are available this weekend. I'm unsure of door knocking or lit-drops schedules.

Stop on by their office in Bingham Farms (30300 Telegraph), or give them a call @ (313) 719-8200.

    Buh-bye, Debbie...
