We won...
There is no better way to say it...we won... Conservatives working in unison at the State Republican Convention sent a message to the establishment loud and clear: "It's our turn!"...No more `business as usual' politics orchestrated to appease the political masses with hollow claims of conservatism and principles each election cycle, only to disappear into the maze of lobbyists and special interests in the interim...This time, the false claims of an election year cycle fell on deaf ears, conservatism ruled the day...Libertarians, Tea Partiers, and true Republican conservatives unified in one of the most sweeping upsets of the incumbent power brokers I have seen in my lifetime...they have sent both the State and National GOP a clear ultimatum...This time we will not be silent, nor ignored, nor brushed aside... Continued below the fold ~
The first sign of cracks in the establishment wall came during the District Caucus Delegate selection...Using the tactics of the Party pros themselves, the conservatives nominated and elected slates of delegates virtually unknown to the Party faithful...According to two sources from the unofficial "Ron Paul" convention, at last count 31 of 44 delegates and alternates that could be confirmed were Ron Paul supporters...This, if true, presents the GOP a major problem in Tampa regardless of the Presidential primary outcome, true conservatism will be represented at the Convention, and will have to be acknowledged and accommodated in some manner...
On the Convention floor Saturday, there was a palpable energy in the atmosphere from the start...the pro Agema/dump Anuzis crowd had been at work for weeks recruiting support among delegates...Knots of C4L, 912, Tea Party and true GOP conservatives roamed the floor, congregating at District intersections to greet and question each other on the overall sentiment of their respective Caucus outcomes...It soon became apparent we had the distinct possibility of creating havoc for the establishment status quo... As the voting for National RNC chairs drew nearer, the arena floor energy level increased noticeably, as I walked the floor greeting old friends I noticed far more delegates standing than sitting, and the ones sitting were mostly hard party supporters...our people were actively working the convention floor...individual conservative group leaders now seemed to be migrating to the back aisles of the delegate area, waiting for the voting; and to monitor the process...After the balloting was finished, there was nothing more to do but wait for the outcome... When the Convention Chairman, Brooks Patterson, came out to announce the outcome, he introduced Saul Anuzis as the next podium speaker, and I felt immediate disappointment, which was short lived...Anuzis then introduces Dave Agema as the new RNC Committeeman, and the room exploded in the loudest, most prolonged ovation and demonstration of the day....We had made our presence felt in a significant way, and the confirmed election on Terry Lynn Land as Committeewoman was almost an afterthought...We had successfully replaced both representatives from Michigan to the National Committee, our message to the State powerbrokers could not be more clearly stated...."Your time is up, it's our turn!"... Michigan's conservative movement made huge strides over the weekend, and the message is now guaranteed to be carried to Tampa and Washington D.C...As I left the floor at Cobo, a long line of conservative activists were manning the railing behind the delegate area, exchanging "high-fives" with everyone as they left....we had legitimately proven we could beat the establishment at their own game, using their own rules...it was a marvelous feeling...Michigan has set the tone for the national convention, let's hope the nation is watching...
