    (Sorry if this has already been posted but I just found out about tonight.)

    The Detroit Water and Sewer Department has one, even thought they don't have any horses, and the union president says the position can't be eliminated.

    Despite having no horses, the water and sewerage department for the city of Detroit employs a horseshoer.

    Yet even with a department so bloated that it has a horseshoer and no horses, the local union president said it is "not possible" to eliminate positions.

    Union rules have turned the department into a government jobs program, some critics say.<Really?>

    On the bright side, the position only pays $29,245 a year plus $27,000 in benefits.

    The best thing to do is give it up. Cut off all aid to the city. No food stamps, no welfare, nothing. That will make the rats leave the sinking tub. Then let the members of the city council fight over the few crumbs that are left until they destroy each other. After that bulldoze what remains. Declare it a brownfield and build a fence around it. Leave it for about a thousand years till all the taint of Liberal stupidity has been washed away. Then at the start of the next millenium maybe, just maybe there can be something planted that will grow there. Hopefully by more intelligent people then what have been inhabiting that forlorn patch of dirt for the last 52 years.
