Nice oratory ~ anyone have an aspirin?By BobV01, Section News
A land of Immigrants true: the first Americans it is believed arrived here over a land bridge, Europe found inhabitants who had moved north.
After generations there are American Michiganders with long held family traditions.
I was impressed with the budget settlement conference results I admit. I am left scratching my head though. I heard tonight about the great partnership with Gerber (owed by French based Nestle), and oh my goodness the dash boards and the merger of tax operations between Flint-Grand Rapids-Lansing and the great partners the State has in its local populations headed by local governments. I heard about the need for more immigrants, and our wonderful unemployment rate of 9.7%.
I heard about the need to be positive and think of brightness for ourselves, our children and our children's children: do we have room for Michiganders with generations of Michigan Tradition?
We all hear of some company's expansion paid for by tax abatements coupled with promises of increased employment and then forget what we have given up when a Michigan owned company fails to fulfill the promise or another foreign company moves in only to move out whether the company is domiciled in Sweden or Asia.
Adoption is a good thing to be sure and all children deserve a nurturing family even those in single parent homes which make up the majority of our population: the children in those situations deserve both parents after a couple of generations of No-Fault children in single family homes we still have not granted to children the laws that would codify their right to two loving parents.
We had a decade of a Canadian Governor and perhaps we will have a decade of another transplant to Michigan, and of course we need additional immigrants to give Michigan to while the children of Michiganders are deprived of two nurturing parents - I am not sure a dashboard is going to fix that.
Michigan to be sure has some conservative philosophies which probably does not include the acceptance of empty promises or encouraging immigration to further deflate wages to make the future look bright for someone else's children.
Many Michiganders have and do believe Michigan is a Great State and a great place for families, many Michiganders believe children deserve two nurturing parents, a Dad and a Mom, and should Michigan blunder its way into a place more aligned with its traditional values, where Dads do not have to litigate to see their children and be a part of their life, and perhaps where we do not maintain double homes and school systems for our children, we might see a rise in individual savings and a rise in ownership by Michiganders with a few generations of Michigan Tradition under the family belt. Sorry Mr. Governor, Michigan is a Great State; we do not need the state to run our communities or our families but rather to empower Michiganders brought up on Michigan traditions to nurture our posterity and I am not sure Municipal Mergers and Dashboards really gets to the core of that.
