This morning there was a 911 service by the bay in Traverse City, Michigan.  A piece of the twin towers, an "artifact" that is being managed by the local fire officials has found a home here, and was present for the ceremony.

This video is of the final minutes of the morning's event.

Even though it wasn't the entire ceremony, I saw more solemnity and respect in that short clip than what was shown today in NY (by a mayor who apparently has issues with clergy and first responders...but not mosques), or what they are attempting to cludge together in PA.

Locally, we didn't have much in the way of "official ceremonies".

There was Patriot Palooza at Fort Wayne (which I didn't attend) and the Michigan Vietnam Veteran Traveling Memorial over in Roseville (which I'll be visiting shortly).

remember what happened 10 years ago today my daughter, who has served 3 tours in Quwait and Iraq, left for Afghanistan today.  She leaves her husband and 16 month old son to serve her country again.  This time she is in the employ of a contractor, as many of our veterans are because there is nothing available in her college degreed line of work.  Please keep these warriors in your prayers also.  Her company employs 28,000 US veterans who leave the forces and come home to unemployment and sign up for shorter stints with contractors.  It is just as dangerous and will probably be the forces who will rotate out as US military forces are reduced in both theaters.

My thoughts and prayers are with the families who suffered so many losses on 9/11.  It was good to see Pres. Bush giving words of comfort yesterday and today.  I didn't agree with him on many things but one thing he did for us was to keep us safe and set up the system that keeps us safe today in spite of the junior high morons in charge today.

May we never forget that catastrophic day and all those innocent lives lost. May they rest in peace and pray for a more peaceful world.
