FLEE-BAGGERS!By Corinthian Scales, Section News
I know this is gonna come as a really big surprise... but now, Indiana's Democrat children have taken their ball and bat, deciding to flee to Barry SoetorObama's home-command of Illinois.
Seats on one side of the Indiana House were nearly empty today as House Democrats departed the state rather than vote on anti-union legislation. And Democrats dare call Republicans "The Party of NO"? Beats the hell out of being "The Party of NO SHOW" at the hands of puppeteering union lackeys.
Today's fight was triggered by Republicans pushing a bill that would bar unions and companies from negotiating a contract that requires non-union members to kick-in fees for representation.
Ah, so it's all about Democrats cowering from powerful organized thievery finally being put in its place. Good thing Indiana has a Republican Governor, right?
Uh-oh, not so fast...
Gov. Mitch Daniels had warned his party late last year against pursuing so-called "right to work" legislation. While he agreed with it philosophically, he said it was a big issue that needed a state-wide debate and noted no Republican had run on this in the November election. Holy crap! What the hell is there to debate about? If it passes Governor Daniels "smell test" fundamentally then it should be at the forefront of his agenda. It's called L-e-a-d-e-r-s-h-i-p.
But now that his party is pursuing it, Daniels has not spoken against it. Hello!?!? Lansing Republicans... are you taking notes? Governor Snyder would have no choice but to roll with you.
He has so far issued no statement, has held no news conference and has not been interviewed by any Indiana reporters in the Statehouse. Daniels did do a radio interview Monday with National Public Radio in which he discussed the labor fight which has caused a government stalemate in Wisconsin -- where Senate Democrats have fled to Illinois to prevent a vote on a bill that limits collective bargaining --a now, apparently, his state. It's hard to fathom Mitch Daniels name actually being bantered around for a presidential run in '12 while he sits on the sidelines playing political windsock with his fellow Republican State Legislature in the trenches delivering on last November's Republican voters message. It was called a "shellacking" for reason. Once again Lansing, you all better be taking notes. 'We the People' have had enough of half-measure, pale Republicans cowering from union thugocracy enabled by the Democrat Party. Our surrounding Great Lake States are going to eat Michigan's competitive lunch right before their watchful eyes if those that be the Majority in Lansing choose to remain flaccid tools in avoidance of the obvious... Statewide Right-To-Work legislation. Backdoor measures through empowering EFM's and zones is not enough.
