Joel Sheltrown has decided he will not seek the first congressional seat. The current report from the Ivory Tower offers his given explanation:

"Sheltrown says that he realized in order to run a successful race, he would have had to abandon his duties as a legislator to campaign full-time. He cannot run again for state House because of term limits."

He didn't mention the real reason.

He didn't mention He would be fighting a machine that already has the financing available, and the right connections.  Political insiders suggest it was the realization that Gary McDowell, current State Rep from Rudyard is Stupak's hand picked successor, and will likely receive support from team Stupak, and the Michigan Democrat Party.  With rumors of more than $2 million in that war chest, it would be a formidable task to go against it.

But for the moment.. let that sink in.. "Hand picked successor.."

Meanwhile Connie Saltonstall continues to spin wheels for any elected position she can obtain.  She is expected to continue at least for the time being, her bid for the 1st district.  From an article at Politico:

"I am convinced that a pro-choice candidate can win and I am determined to say to the Democratic party we want Democratic candidates that represent the platform of the Democratic party, "

    More as it arrives..

    McDowell? Saltonstall? WTF?!?! (none / 0) (#1)

And don't talk about the blue dogs either.  They are as mythical as unicorns and leprechauns.  Just like we found out that the "Pro-Life" Dimocrats are mythical and can be bought off by earmarks.  So can the blue dogs.  They're all @ssholes.  This is one Dimocrat who actually told the truth.  He doesn't care about the Constitution.  He is an @sshole.

Same holds true for the other side of the aisle.

Any incumbent office holder needs to be voted out.  Good, bad, it doesn't matter.  The reset button needs to be hit.

    Now, I'm curious? (none / 0) (#2)

Sheltrown wasn't aware of this before he threw his hat in the ring?

I know that MI-1 is big, but I find it hard to believe that he was out of the loop regarding this decision?

    "Elected" (none / 0) (#3)

As a kid, I grew up listening to a local legend Alice Cooper.  His song "Elected" was merely a novelty with a great guitar rif back then.  Now?  Funny how relevent it has become.

Look to see much more of the hand picked varietal as we near November.  Many of the Liberal mindset that have courageously decided to "step down" for various reasons have amassed tremendous funds which they will use to support their protege'.

"I'm your top prime cut of beef, I'm your choice - I want to be elected! I'm Yankee Doodle Dandy in a Gold Rolls Royce,  I want to be elected!"
"The kids need a savior, they don't need a fake!  I want to be elected!  We're all gonna rock to the rules that I make! I wanna be elected!"

    Pray...

    McDowell-(D) State Rep (none / 0) (#4)

So we know he's in favor of high taxes, paying public school teachers 200K/year, and kissing union butt. What will make him acceptable to the "Republicans" in the 1st? Is he pro-2A and publically anti-abortion? Does he deliver on funding for the senior centers? What's his bipartisan draw?
