The King Nerd makes a major mistakeBy JGillman, Section News
This is the season where we decide whether to vote for candidate A or candidate B. Primary voting will decide who represents each respective party, and typical issue related campaign points will be made by those who would represent us in the state house, senate or Michigan's executive office.
That is unless you are Rick Snyder. The gubernatorial prospects on the Republican side of the state's high office race include two strong natural contenders, a couple of other decent guys and a rich guy who thinks he can buy the office as a part of of a personal bucket list. Allow me to be clear.. Being rich in and of itself, offers no discount to a person's qualification to hold office, and YES, it can suggest a fiscal ability that many who hold office are unable to fathom. It is no guarantee however that an understanding of the real issues people and our state faces daily. And given the most recent TV ad by Rick Snyder, we can see issues are not nearly as important as rumor and innuendo.
In a queer fit of twisted sympathy for the top opponent that Mike Cox faces, Snyder blasts the issue based campaign points Cox has made about Hoekstra's votes in congress. He says "Pete Hoekstra? He's a good man.." all the while parading the Manoogian rumor garbage out, then talks about them bickering.
The bottom line is that the Mike Cox campaign has been quite correctly running ads attacking the judgment of Hoekstra on his bailout vote. its a real concern. And yes Pete is a good man. Snyder should fire whomever he has placed in charge of his advertising. His ad serves no purpose but to offer rumor in a sly manner, and give credit and credence to an opponent who by some measures has a slight lead already. This advertisement offers nothing of substance to back up Snyder other than an observation that is flawed in its higher regard for suspicion, rumor, and negativity, than documented historical fact. Issues DO matter. Perhaps not to a nerd.. but they do matter.
