Macomb County Rally/Event RoundupBy KG One, Section News
Couldn't ask for a better day for a protest.
Film at 11. Or if you can't wait, continued below the fold...
Thursday Afternoon, the Michigan Taxpayers Alliance held their protest in front of the Sterling Heights City Hall.
With a sizable crowd arriving way before it scheduled starting time, about 500 people were eventually on hand to protest the reckless taxing and spending schemes by the Granholm & Obama Administrations.
And the location turned to be very appropo given the fact that Sterling Heights politicians are looking at a imposing a "needed" tax increase, without a vote of the residents!
Part of the tax hike that the majority of Sterling Heights politicians are advocating, will be used to pay for needed expenditures, such as $1,500 seats. Other politicians/candidates who were in attendance yesterday was Michigan AG/Candidate for Governor Mike Cox.
AG Cox Spoke briefly to the crowd, including about the status of his lawsuit on behalf of Michigan Residents to allow us to opt out of Obamacare. And what would a rally against taxes be without a contingent of city employees protesting in favor of them?
Yes, about 50-60 employees decided to voice their approval for higher taxes. Note the nice professionally printed signs they brought with them. Later in the day, MEDEFCO held in informational meeting with gubernatorial candidates in St. Clair Shores. The meeting began with candidates seeking offices in various races around Macomb County before main portion of the meeting moderated by WJR's Frank Beckman. All of the candidates for governor were invited to attend. Sadly, Rep. Alma Wheeler-Smith and Dillon could not attend. Mayor Bernero initially indicated that he would attend, but later had a deputy campaign manager inform MEDEFCO that due to a "scheduling conflict" he would be unable to attend. And to no one's surprise, Rick "The Nerd" Snyder wasn't available. Things got off due to a late start due to one of the candidates running behind schedule (note to Mike Cox's campaign staff: I highly recommend buying a watch and a map. Port Huron is about an hour from S.C.S). After a brief introduction from the candidates, questions were accepted from the audience of about 1,000 people (Cox was thrown into the mix after he arrived). Mr. Beckman took questions from the audience for the entire panel of candidates and individual candidates. And no softball questions were to lobbed last night. Among the questions asked of candidates, are they Pro Life, their position on Right to Work and specifically how they would turn Michigan's economy around. The questions asked of individual candidates didn't get any easier. Case in point: Rep Hoekstra was asked about his votes for the bailout, Bridge to Nowhere and stance on the death penalty. Needless to say, his response wasn't very reassuring to those attending. When MEDEFCO posts the video of the event, I will add a link. All in all Frank Beckman did an excellent job moderating the event. He also did outstanding job handling handling the questions from the audience, keeping everything on schedule as much as possible.
