Cox expected to attend Tea Parties today

Attorney General Mike Cox is making an attempt to get his message out by visiting Michigan Tea Parties. Expect announcements at those events, his plans for reducing the burden on Michigan Taxpayers and opening up the state by addressing its tax environment.  Announced today:

"Michigan families and job makers need a tax cut," said Cox.  "By cutting taxes by $2 billion we will spur job growth, empower entrepreneurs and put more money in the pockets of working men and women so they can provide for their families."

Cox has traveled the state including attending several of the Tea Party Express stops in the last week discussing his plan to cut the Michigan Business Tax in half and to end the 2007 Granholm income tax hike.  He will likely discuss his fight to cut taxes, cut spending and his battle to stop the unconstitutional Obama-Pelosi health care bill at Tea Party rallies including the following locations:

    ·The Lansing Tax Day Tea Party- Capitol Steps, 12:30 PM;

·Michigan Taxpayers Alliance Tax and Spending Protest- Sterling Heights City Hall, 5:00 PM; and

·Blue Water Patriots 2nd Annual Tax Day Rally- Pine Grove Park, Port Huron, 7:00 PM.

Some Tea Party organizers have declined political speeches by sitting politicians in the past, yet as the elections draw nearer, candidates such as Cox will be more present whether in a speaking role or not (ALL politicians are encouraged to at least attend these rallies)and will try to gain as much exposure as possible.

a little more below the fold..

Gubernatorial candidate Mike Cox's expected plan is indeed ambitious:

"My first step as governor in January 2011 will be to cut the M.B.T.- the jobs tax- by 50 percent and then phase it out completely to tell job makers Michigan is finally "open for business," Cox has said repeatedly. "By letting citizens keep more of their own money we will provide an immediate economic stimulus while forcing Lansing to cut the programs it can't afford, cut outdated services and forcing state government to finally right-size its budget."

If the conditioning done by our current governor has taken firm hold, it would seem unlikely to many that any of this aggressive posturing is possible.  However, conservative Republicans and the State's AG are convinced it can be done.  Of course it will require a solidly conservative legislative back up, and the grass roots candidates have been plentiful in districts all over Michigan.

The Tea Party events have been a way for the Cox team to reach out to those grass roots activists and candidates, and for good reason. In a time where some who are regarded as "establishment" seem to be the face of government, it becomes an important step in regaining the trust for effective leadership.  The attendees at such events hold a great amount of power not currently so accessible to politicos.

As an aside, All candidates should be on board with "no new tax" pledges.  Every one of them.

    Don't just focus on Cox. (5.00 / 1) (#1)

The local paper did a piece this morning on this.

Most of the candidates for governor on the GOP side are attending Tea Party rallies. Democrats Virg Berneo and possibly Andy Dillon will be attending a Tea Party meeting tonight. I'm not sure if the Libertarians or US Taxpayers (Constitution) are sitting this one out yet.

But one thing that I did catch in that article was one noticeable absence, and that of Rick "The Nerd" Snyder.

It had been mentioned before that Rick has an apparent aversion to Tea Parties.

Can it be because Tea Party members are a little more aware of current events than "The Nerd" is comfortable with?

That we won't allow him to get away with non-answers to direct questions?

    Well Snyder-lurkers?

Care to chime in on this one?

    Here's hoping Cox is seated... (none / 0) (#2)

... among a few Michigan divorced dads, who will give him an earful on how opportunistic creeps like himself shouldn't demonize said dads hoping to score political points.

... to this divorced dad -- who otherwise votes Republican.  Cox needs to do some serious apologizing in order to get my vote (are you listening, Nick?).
