Who are the NERD fund donors Mr Snyder?

    Detroit is dying...

By now most Michiganders, who have been paying any attention at all, know the current situation of the City of Detroit and it's not pretty.

Gary North, writing at LewRockwell.com, provides interesting insight into Detroit's decline, the reasons for it, and reason the media have generally ignored it.

Detroit is dying. Yes, I know that there are lots of books on "The Death of. . . ." That word sells books. But Detroit really is dying. It is the first metropolis in the United States to be facing extinction. We have never seen anything like this in American history. It is happening under our noses, but the media refuse to discuss it. To do so would be politically incorrect. Two factors tell us that Detroit is dying. The first is the departure of 900,000 people - over half the city's population - since 1950. It peaked at 1.8 million in 1950. It is down to about 900,000 today.

In 1994, the median sales price of a house in Detroit was about $41,000. The housing bubble pushed it up to about $98,000 in 2003. In March 2009, the price was $13,600. Today, the price is $7,000. Check the price chart.

There has never been a collapse of residential real estate values of this magnitude in peacetime history, anywhere. Detroit is dying.

A once thriving American metropolis is dead, that's change.

    God help us!

... dying -- but what precisely does that mean?  If it means becoming bankrupt and unmanageable, then Detroit is already dead.

Has been on life support for years. All that needs to be done now is pull the plug and remove the feeding tube. I guess the bigger issue is what killed it. I think most of us here know. Liberal Progressive policies, Socialism, elected leaders looting the city coffers. Anyone of these and there is a choice of many other reasons. Surfice it to say that when Democrats got their hands on the control of this city things have gone down hill every since. Detroit will be the first large city to fail. But thanks to the Statist Progressives you be sure that there will be many more large eastern cities that will suffer the same fate as the once mighty and prosperous Detroit. It is only a matter of time.

My plan would be to reroute the river and give what's left of Detroit to Canada ... oh, and make sure our Canadian Socialist Governor is in Detroit at the time!
Then we can stop the never-ending flow of our hard-earned tax dollars into that corrupt, worthless city.

Mr. North pretty much has it spot on.

The only thing that he got wrong is the population.

The latest estimates that I've heard have it pegged between 700,000-800,000.

    Cloward-Pivin in action.
